Alexander

Hey, team. Welcome back to the three hamster boys podcast. I'm Alexander joined by Nick and our father, Jeff. Welcome to another episode. Today is gonna be a kind of a fun thought experiment one. I think we talked about this in some of the previous episodes, but sometimes we just like doing silly sort of conversations that get us thinking about, like, characters and media and maybe how they'd interact with each other. But before we get too deep into that, Nick, what are we drinking today?

Nick

It feels good to be back. Yeah. I Back

Alexander

in the in the driver's seat.

Nick

I felt I I didn't have as much influence last episode. Right. I didn't I didn't feel like I had my my my duty, you know. Now it's back. So today we have the pleasure of experimenting with tequila. Woo. One of the the liquors that we haven't, really been able to get our hands on. We were looking around, trying to get, like, a local one. And thankfully, we have, this one, which is from Virginia Beach, which is Chesapeake

Jeff

Bay decelerate.

Nick

Yep. Absolutely. We did not go there. We sent a spy, a k a a close, like, family friend over there to procure such a thing, and she had a great time. She said that, the folks there were incredibly nice, and they were actually interested in, like, shouting, you know, us out on our podcast, which is kinda cool. But, nonetheless Yeah. The we will be tasting a few of them throughout our, next few episodes, and we're beginning with a very fun one which is a tequila with smoked ghost pepper flavors.

Jeff

Infused, yeah. This particular distillery has, they infuse a lot of flavors into their liquors.

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

And so we I saw this one. Number one, there's not a lot of tequila producersdistillers so when I saw this one and I saw interest

Alexander

for its tequila.

Jeff

Yeah. Not a cactus growing.

Alexander

Yeah. I was like, we could get a lot of wine. There's a lot of breweries around here, but,

Jeff

tequila. We can get bourbon and and whiskey. Yeah.

Nick

We can

Alexander

get bourbon and whiskey. Yeah.

Jeff

But, yeah, tequila is kind of a rarity.

Alexander

Mhmm. But, which is fun. Yeah.

Nick

We have a rare version of tequila, I'd say. Yeah. I'm looking forward to this. And as our usual, liquors go, I like to start us off by actually being able to taste, the liquor digestably,

Jeff

you

Nick

know, like sippably, as the gin and tonic in the past, and the daiquiri, with the,

Jeff

Rum.

Nick

With the rum. Yeah. So we have a simple margarita, which is just the tequila, Cointreau, and, some lime juice. And, a little salt room, which I learned how to do. I'm I'm learning so many things doing all

Alexander

this stuff. Wait. Margaritas are I feel like this is just, like, showing my intelligence here. Margaritas are literally just tequila and lime juice And

Nick

and and an orange liqueur.

Jeff

And an

Alexander

orange liqueur. Oh, okay. Okay. I was like,

Nick

this feels like it's too simple.

Jeff

Yeah. Usually you also do it on rocks, but I forgot to bring the eyes.

Alexander

That's okay. That's fine.

Nick

It should do the job. It it sometimes recommends agave syrup as well. Oh, okay. You can you can zhuzh it up as like more or little as you want. I I want for the bare bones to make it digestible that we can sip.

Jeff

Yeah. A lot of bars will add simple syrup to make it sweeter.

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah. Okay. That makes sense. Or put it in a like, a frozen Yeah.

Jeff

Freezer. Yeah.

Nick

But yeah. Let's begin.

Alexander

Cheers, team.

Jeff

Salt everywhere.

Nick

The salt just tell.

Alexander

In the explosion of salt. That's good. I like it.

Jeff

I love the salt on the side. I'm always happy.

Alexander

Oh, wait a second. Kind of

Nick

There's a lot going on here.

Alexander

Kind of

Nick

I'm kind of feeling it now. Hold on.

Alexander

It's so warm. Oh, my gosh. It's so warm.

Jeff

That pepper does play.

Alexander

This feels weird because you're you're right. The the the flavor profile that I would describe it is like warm, not necessarily spicy. Like, it it is similar but not the same exact feeling of drinking something like a like a bourbon or a scotch that kinda like warms you up as you drink it. This one is just kinda like warm in the back of my throat and it's just staying there.

Jeff

I also feel it in the, like, my the back of my nose, the top of my mouth too.

Nick

Fascinating. Very fascinating. Not what I would expect from a tequila. No. But I don't I don't mind it.

Jeff

No. You know I like spicy things. So I I

Nick

really like it. I'm with you.

Alexander

I don't like spicy things, but I like this. I think this is fun. Speaking of fun, let's talk about today's episode. We wanted to do something a little weird, and we were doing our typical family brainstorm at the dining room table. And I will give all the credit to Nick because he deserves it. We we were sitting there, and I think I was

Nick

like, mythical creatures, let's talk about mythical creatures. And Nick was like,

Alexander

give me more. I want more. Like, give me something more specifically to latch onto. So what Nick has determined, and I think we all agreed, we are going to be making our quite literal, fantasy slash fiction, three v three basketball teams here. I think as a, like, I think we all have given ourselves some sort of, like, code to stick to, and we've either, like, followed that or or whatever, just to make it a little more interesting.

And I think most of us have veered away from, like, the super obvious, super, like, overpowered, like, we talked about none of us added a speedster, like the Flash or like Sonic, which would kinda make the game invalidated basically. Kinda boring. Yeah, yeah. Kinda boring. And I think in terms of like anime, I think most of us also sh, like shined away from like, big shounen, like we're not having a Goku instant teleportation.

Yeah. Instant transmission into the hoop. Yeah. So as always, I guess, dad, let's have you start and you can talk about your kind of rules.

Jeff

Yeah. So what I did was is I said, I want this to be less about the superpowers and more about the characters.

Alexander

Okay.

Jeff

So I picked three women Marvel characters.

Nick

Can can we also say real quick the order of

Jeff

how we're doing? Sure. So the first thing we're gonna do is so the three the three roles we're doing are the point guard, a center, and a shooter. Yeah. Yeah. And so the first one we're gonna do is the point guard. And so I also wanted the characters to seem more like normal characters rather than really superheroes Oh. Or supervillains.

Alexander

Alright. So

Nick

so it's like you're catching them in their, like, casual moments.

Alexander

You're like actually making a basketball team.

Jeff

I'm actually making a basketball team.

Nick

Yeah. They're superheroes, but, like, I don't know. They're just hooping right now.

Jeff

Yeah. So Okay. Okay. So here's my first one, my point guard. So when I thought of this, I thought of, a point guard does two things. They basically, dribble the ball to and pass it to assist other people. They also do a lot of steal, so they have to have really good

Nick

hands. Uh-huh.

Jeff

So I'm thinking a juggler or a thief.

Alexander

Okay.

Nick

Yeah.

Alexander

Don't don't they typically need to be like tall too?

Jeff

No. No. Point guards are the shortest care people on on the court.

Alexander

You're destroying my basketball knowledge here. My team is even more messed up.

Nick

Wait a minute. I thought the point guard was the one who like donks in the

Jeff

center. No. No. That's the center.

Alexander

That's that doesn't make any sense anywhere.

Jeff

So so so this this kinda shows that when they came up with this idea, I was like, really?

Nick

We are not familiar with sports. So I'm maintaining my list.

Jeff

Maintaining my list too but it's now super messed up. So my first thief juggler person

Alexander

Yep.

Jeff

Is the Marvel character Black Cat.

Alexander

Okay. Okay.

Jeff

So, like

Alexander

Spider man. Spider man.

Jeff

Spider man. Yeah. So so she also gives us aura of bad luck to the other person. So when she's guarding them, they're gonna have they're gonna lose the ball when they're dribbling it and whatever. So but it's a it's it's almost a normal character, a normal person character.

Nick

She she is. She doesn't have any powers.

Jeff

Right. Well, she's a good thief.

Nick

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like but, like, through, like, hard work and, like, talent.

Jeff

Yeah. Yeah. So that's who my point guard is. She's gonna be dribbling. She's gonna be passing it. She's got great hands. She has great mobility, and and she's very nimble. And so I want her to be the one that passes the ball.

Alexander

Does she actually have no powers like Cashman?

Jeff

She has an aura where she she causes people around her to have bad luck.

Alexander

Sorry. I cannot tell if you're talking about her aura as if, like, she's got good aura points or if she actually has an ability. I would

Nick

say in a lot of cases, she's at least perceived not to have.

Alexander

Right. Oh, interesting. Okay. So she's like Not like a domino

Jeff

She's she's the she's a marble equivalent of

Nick

Catwoman.

Alexander

Okay. Okay.

Nick

Yeah.

Alexander

So she's like yeah.

Nick

Just talented.

Jeff

Very athletic. Cool. Right?

Alexander

I I like that. That that's a fun start. Also I think Nick and I's lists are slightly messed up now.

Nick

I think we needed to, like, clarify it. Like, write it down. I agree.

Alexander

We're like, okay, these are the roles, and Nick and I went, okay.

Nick

We'll take it to heart.

Alexander

Alright, Nick. We'll have you go next.

Nick

So my point guard, which I just found out is my most agile and quick character, will obviously be Sauron from Lord of the Rings. That's awesome. He is nine two. As we know, most traditional bat, basketball hoops are 10 tall, so he'll steal the ball while it's in the mid air most of the time.

Alexander

That's awesome.

Nick

I'll read you his resume really quick.

Alexander

Oh my god.

Nick

He's basically the Lord of the Rings equivalent of Lucifer. He, fell from heaven, took over the middle earth Yeah. And just became a really bad guy

Alexander

Right.

Nick

And had to be beaten by basically another really tall dude.

Jeff

Right.

Nick

And then eventually by a really short dude. Yeah. So I feel I felt like there was a lot of he was made for basketball, basketball, to

Jeff

be honest.

Nick

I think this whole orc army trying to, like, take over, like like rule the shadows of of Middle Earth, I feel like that wasn't his real calling as we can see because it didn't it didn't succeed. If he hooped, that would have been a different story.

Alexander

I thought you were gonna say he's taking over Middle Earth so he can set up just swaths of basketball, like, courts so we can find the best hooper.

Nick

There's a reason why he left Hobbiton alone for so long. Right. Because it was no competition. There would be no point. Yeah. You know who he targeted first? Elves and men. Elves and men. I'm telling you. He's got the instincts were there.

Alexander

Okay? Oh my gosh. Do you have a, like, a code that you're, like, helping you decide what characters kinda fit in here?

Nick

It's mainly vibes based

Alexander

Okay.

Nick

And how I would love to see them team up, my all all three of my Mhmm. People, and how they probably would, like, not like each other's existences. Like, fundamental, like, moral issues. Okay. But, like, in my heart I'm like, but they're gonna play ball together.

Alexander

They're like, but we have to.

Nick

Yeah. So that's my point guard, nine two, basically just metal monster.

Alexander

Okay. Alright. So, I I have my phone here so I can read this. I, before this Yeah. Had an idea for a team, and I was going to put Medusa from Soul Eater in the center of it.

But that didn't that didn't work out, because I I misremembered her abilities. She shoots out, like, arrows, and I, for some reason, thought that she could, like, use those arrows to manipulate, like, direction of things. But I had a, a a kind of, like, four tenants that I was looking for for characters, which was ability or skill. So, like, do they have something that would be interesting or good for a basketball team? What is the likelihood that they would play basketball?

Nick

Okay.

Alexander

Would they be able to play on a team?

Nick

Like, work well with others.

Alexander

Yeah. Like, work well with others. I also had Darth Vader on this list.

Nick

As part of your conditions? Well, like It's like one one talent,

Alexander

two Three Darth Vader. Three Darth Vader. Yeah. Well, I'm more of like I think it would be so interesting to see Darth Vader try to play basketball, but I don't think he would play well with others on the team.

Nick

Crush the basketball.

Alexander

Yeah. And also, he would just like slow walk.

Nick

He could not really catch anyone, and he'd be like breathing heavy the whole time.

Alexander

Exactly. So, I I took that out. And then the fourth thing was, how would this be for like a spectator sport? And so that's how I took out like a lot of the speedsters. I took out like Doctor Strange, who just like your your hoop is now sending into my hoop, or reverse that, whatever. So I I kinda wanted that. And then my whole, like, my whole thing got messed up.

Nick

Like five minutes ago? Yeah. Yeah.

Alexander

I was like, I was searching so desperately because I remembered so vividly that Medusa did it. I just I couldn't I couldn't find anything about it, so I'm just misremembering it. There there are other characters out there. I just can't think of them right now. I know that Demon Slayer has a character that does something similar with arrows, the kind of invisible arrows on the ground.

But again, wasn't wasn't, like, as interesting. And a lot of the, like, commentary on Demon Slayer is, like, a lot of things aren't real. Like, it's partially the show itself dramatizing what's happening. And whatever. So my point guard, who again I thought needed to be a super tall person, to like block shots and dunk or whatever, is the character Slenderman from the hit series game Slenderman. Nice. If you're unfamiliar, he is, some sort of cryptid horror, creature.

Nick

He's like a faceless guy in a suit.

Alexander

Yeah, he's like white, like, like, we're white, but he's Like bed sheet white. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He doesn't have a face, He wears a suit, and he's, like, super tall and lanky. Like, he's super skinny, but he's got, like, really long arms. He's super tall. So

Jeff

I'd like to give you a basketball reference, but it would fall on deaf ears. Yeah.

Nick

Probably. Throw it

Alexander

out there anyways for the fans just

Jeff

to say Munit Bull is a, African player who was seven six seven seven.

Alexander

Yeah. He

Jeff

had a wingspan that was, like, nine feet

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

From fingertip to fingertip.

Alexander

Yeah. Like think think about that, but just a super white faceless person In a business suit. In a business suit the whole time. Now you may be wondering, Slenderman doesn't move very fast in the games. He doesn't need to.

Nick

He does not move quickly. No.

Alexander

I was just gonna leave him by our hoop, to block shots. Dude, well,

Nick

okay. As apparently the new

Alexander

rule of the point guard.

Jeff

So so most centers are not big runners. There are they are usually

Nick

so we had the right Yeah.

Alexander

You had the right idea.

Jeff

Just in

Alexander

the wrong spot.

Jeff

Okay. Is it

Alexander

Alright. Well, then maybe maybe he's my center

Nick

and I'll do my point guard. I'm keeping my point guard as is. I think Sauron can can live up. I think, yeah.

Alexander

Yeah. You believe in him? Yeah. Wow. I'm now realizing my knowledge of basketball super bad.

Nick

I think I know what the shooter does though.

Alexander

Yeah, so please tell me that the shooter like takes three three point shots, right?

Jeff

Well, okay.

Alexander

Oh no.

Jeff

No, he does, he does, he does. But so when you when you think about a basketball there's five positions.

Alexander

Okay. Yeah.

Jeff

Normally. You have a point guard, okay, which is the one that distributes. You have a shooting guard which is usually the second shortest person and is usually doing outside shots. Then you have a small forward, which is a guy that's somewhere between a very he's like the middle height, but he basically is taking shots that are between the three point and outside the lane. So they're taking mid range shots.

Alexander

Is a small forward, is that an adjective for his stature?

Jeff

No. It's just his position. And then you have a power forward, which is one that's usually shooting from the sides. Pretty big guy, but he's also defensively, he'll he'll be inside and outside.

Alexander

Okay.

Nick

And

Jeff

then you have the center who's in the center of all five of these, keeping people out of the lane and blocking and doing that. Usually the tallest biggest guy.

Alexander

Got you.

Jeff

Shaq O'Neal.

Alexander

Oh nice. Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

Who's the center?

Nick

Hey we know.

Alexander

Yo. We know that guy. DJ Diesel.

Jeff

So so that's that's that's the role of the center. So it probably messes up how you pick

Alexander

it up. Yeah, a little bit. That's okay.

Nick

It's a fun little thing.

Jeff

Yeah. Well, you you the three on three doesn't really follow that convention.

Alexander

It's true. It's like more like Olympic slash streets rules.

Jeff

Yeah. It's it's more more nebulous because basically you have usually three guys that are somewhere between small forward and power forward height. They have some they're more athletic, more like a shooting guard athletic.

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

They can do ball handling, but three on three is really about passing and and getting it down and running and whatever. So

Alexander

Nice. Alright. Now that we have a little bit more basketball knowledge,

Nick

I think, hopefully, you do too. Yeah. And we have just made ourselves

Alexander

I think we're gonna I think I need more drink, so we're gonna switch to drink number two, and when we'll be back we'll be talking about either our centers or, Someone else. Me.

Nick

Yeah. Something else. We'll see you in

Alexander

a little bit. And we're back, and this time we've got a very different looking drink in front of us. Us.

Nick

Yes. I'm I'm always trying to make sure that all the drinks look somewhat unique and different and are unique and different. There's been times in the past where all of them are sort of just one color. They might taste different, but they're not. So I'm making sure that they aren't now.

This one should be a familiar opaque texture that you can see from a mile away. But it is obviously a bloody something, but it is a bloody Maria or Marina, I've heard I've seen two, which is basically just a Bloody Mary with tequila instead of vodka. And I thought it was fitting and and wanting to try it with the, the ghost pepper

Alexander

Yeah. Version of it. It looks good. I'm I we have been to a lot of food shows just because of what we do, and we've tried a lot of bloody mary mix. Yeah. So I'm really excited to try this one.

Jeff

And the unique thing with this one is we didn't have to add any hot sauce

Nick

because we're

Jeff

counting on although we hadn't tasted it, we're counting on the smoked ghost pepper to really bring out the, spice.

Nick

Yeah. As a yeah. There's still horseradish in here. Yeah. So it should still have that flavor to it.

Jeff

Clear the nose.

Nick

Yeah. Yeah. I I a garnish would be nice. Like, I think a stalk of celery would be cool.

Jeff

I had celery, so Well,

Nick

it's fine. It's fine. Either way, I think the

Alexander

other thing is while while it was sitting here, it was kind of, like, separating a little bit.

Nick

I think that's what you're looking for.

Alexander

So, yeah. Maybe that's something we're looking for.

Nick

I have no idea.

Alexander

Alright. First one of you, man. Cheers. I I feel like that that that's just good. That's like a Bloody Mary. I I do feel like you could've added some hot sauce in here to be honest.

Nick

Yeah. Like, probably could've.

Alexander

Make it a little spicier, but honestly, like, it's like an easygoing Bloody Mary. Like, I can just down this.

Jeff

The horseradish is very present.

Nick

Yeah. I might have put too much in.

Jeff

But I like horseradish. I am not a big I'm not a big Bloody Mary fan. So it the tomato juice, and I used v eight. We I got v eight for this instead of tomato juice

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

Is not as forward as a lot of Bloody Marys are. So I like this better than a Bloody Mary.

Nick

I mean, this is really easy to drink, to be honest. Yeah.

Jeff

But as you drink it

Alexander

You can feel it.

Jeff

You can feel that that Yeah. Ghost pepper in the back of your throat again.

Nick

It's fascinating. Both these drinks, I don't think I've been really able to identify the taste specifically of the tequila and what it has, but I can feel it. Yeah. And I think that's exciting because it it gives a new layer Yeah. No matter what you add with it.

Jeff

I agree. I mean, there's a lot of times when you drink a tequila drink, you're going, okay, I'm drinking tequila here.

Nick

Yeah. Which, you know

Jeff

There's good and bad to that. Hit

Alexander

or miss

Nick

on what you're looking for that night.

Alexander

Dude, I I was about to say, I think this is an alcohol that I, like, wanna experiment more with. Like I do think that it has so such like different and unique elements to it.

Nick

I was, when looking up cocktails, I was looking up, like standard tequila ones. Yeah. But also I was looking for mezcal cocktails with it as well because the smoked part, the sort of like bite that it has could work with it. I found some really interesting ones. I I was bouncing them off. I was like, oh, I could do like a spicy paloma. I would like to see what a tequila sunrise does with this.

Alexander

Oh. Right? And stuff like that.

Nick

I wanted to make That'll wake you up. Yeah. And seeing how much, like, spice it actually has and then trying to match it with the fruitiness.

Jeff

I think the tequila sunrise would be awesome in this because I just I'm I'm imagining the the sharpness of the pineapple, then you have the acidity of the orange juice, you're getting that tequila kick in

Nick

there.

Jeff

Yeah. And then you get that smokey ghost pepper on the back, which is, yeah. So this is good. I actually like it.

Nick

I like it a lot. Yeah. This is a good I

Jeff

know you guys are more bloody married. Yeah.

Alexander

Which is weird. I don't know why I like them, but I enjoy it. And this is this is really good. It goes down really easily.

Nick

But, yeah, I could I could I could it could've done with the, Tabasco and Yeah. And all that other stuff.

Alexander

I think so too. Alright. Well, that being said, Nick, why don't you kick us off here?

Nick

Yeah. So, obviously, my center being the largest and strongest and and the bulkiest one, will be Aang from the Avatar series.

Alexander

You good?

Nick

I hope my father is dying. The Avatar the Last Airbender series, obviously Aang, was gonna be my point guard, which or was my center, but should have been my point guard, I think is what I'm understanding. Because from my point of view it feels like the the role of the point guard is also like a like a decider.

Jeff

Mhmm.

Nick

Right? Like they are the ones, like, who to like prioritize where the ball goes and like controlling it, right? Like it's all about the movement and the control and like making sure the ball goes where you want it to.

Jeff

Yeah. They're considered the coach on the, on the on the court.

Nick

Yeah. And and you're looking forward to it. And I I think Oh, no. I I I thought Aang was perfect for it, not only because at this point I think Aang is very rational and has a really good on it head on his shoulders, and I wasn't actually taking into account his bending at all. Oh, really?

Because he's trained in martial arts. Yeah. And we've seen what happens, like, he can keep things away from people really well. Yeah. Like, we we've seen him do like the whole like hands on a bat on the back and like they can never look at him sort of thing, right? Like, when he's like toying with Zuko, where he's just like holding his hands out on to Zuko's back, and like Zuko can never look at him.

Alexander

Yeah. He's like spinning around trying to get him and and Aang is just like positioning himself perfectly.

Nick

Yeah. I feel like Aang is so flighty, but now he's my center, which now we bring in the bending and

Alexander

Well, yeah. I I was thinking about having a bender, whether it's Korra or Aang, just because I feel like having access to all of the elements is crazy. Air in particular, I feel like

Nick

Air, I feel like is crazy.

Alexander

Insane here. But even even that, like in the Legend of Korra universe, which is like just the after the last airbender universe later, they have a sport. It's not basketball at all.

Nick

It's a weird like disc game.

Alexander

Yeah. It's like it's like Frisbee if you wanted your opponent to catch a,

Nick

like, chunk

Alexander

of yeah.

Nick

Yeah. Basically,

Alexander

chunk of rock instead of actually throwing it to them.

Nick

Yeah. But yeah, Aang, I'd also just love to see him just interact with Sauron. I think they would hate each other's guts. Or I think Aang would be like, oh, hey, woah, you're like a kind of cool guy. And Sauron would be like, you are like a stain of the world. Yeah. Which I would love to see them work together in many ways, especially since Saron is my point guard and Peng is my center. That means Saron's giving out the orders. Kang is like, I gotta do it.

Alexander

That makes me feel worse that you said that the point guard is the coach on the court because I don't think Slenderman talks or can talk.

Nick

He can learn sign language. It'd be kinda sick. I'm not gonna lie.

Jeff

He's like play two, he just goes like two.

Nick

Yeah. That's the play they're running. To me.

Alexander

To you. And unfortunately my next pick does not help this. So even if I wanted to switch, Slenderman to being the center, which is where he probably should be, and then this next pick into the point card, you'll see in a second why it doesn't

Nick

Is it the whole team dynamics, like Oh, yeah. Kind of like the back pocket? It's so good. Okay.

Alexander

So we've all seen Air Bud, right? The The dog? The movie where a dog learns how to play basketball and is really good at it for some reason. Football.

Jeff

No. It's There there's multiple. There's multiple.

Alexander

There's like a whole this dog can do everything. Actually, I don't even know

Jeff

The original Air Bud was basketball.

Nick

I don't

Alexander

even know if it's the same dog in all of these.

Nick

I know there's Air Buddies, which are the the litter.

Alexander

Oh, yeah. There's there's like little ones. Yeah. So we've all seen this movie, right? A dog can be awesome at basketball. And what's better than a dog? A cosmic space dog. And, you might be thinking, oh, like Cosmo? No, no, no, no, no. I'm talking about the Goodest Boy, from a series called Risk of Rain. I'm talking about Acrid.

Jeff

What is this? You're just

Nick

a non verbal team? Just a bunch of monsters? Who's gonna do spit on them?

Alexander

Acrid is oh man, I wish I had the lore to pull it up right now. Acrid is so in the lore of Risk of Rain, you are survivors of a crash, most of them, on this planet. And you're basic it's a rogue like you're you're basically, like, fighting through waves of enemies to either like obliterate into nothingness or fight this guy, Mithrix, in the base Risk of Rain two. You can find Acrid which is just this alien creature. Thing.

Nick

Yeah. He's got four appendages, so you could call him a dog.

Alexander

I think Acrid is actually a she.

Nick

I am not familiar with the lore, so that's totally like fine.

Alexander

But yeah, Acrid like spits poison and venom and looks faintly, very faintly, like a dog kind of.

Nick

Yeah, I don't know why you built this up like dogs. I didn't It's because everyone

Alexander

I talk to, they're like, oh yeah, Akron, the dog of risk of rain.

Nick

I haven't made that comparison yet.

Alexander

But anyways, yeah, I didn't realize the team dynamic might be struggling here as, pretty sure Aggrid doesn't speak either. It just kind of makes weird alien, like, calls.

Jeff

Well, you have a more flexible team.

Nick

Right, yeah.

Jeff

Everyone plays every position.

Alexander

But, I mean the thing, the good things about Akrid, besides the fact that Akrid shoots like poison and stuff, is it's got a great jump game. Leaps really far, and I think that will help with, dunking, potentially. Or just jumping from one side of the court to the other. Yeah. Yeah.

Nick

Alright, dad. What about you? Who is your center?

Jeff

So my center is, someone that has to be able to take so when you are underneath the basket, there's a lot of bumping, elbowing, your your your body to body, you're pushing in trying to get close to the basket to dunk it or whatever.

Nick

So I

Jeff

thought I needed someone really strong.

Alexander

Okay. Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

And I thought I would think outside the box of someone really strong. So Jessica Jones from Marvel. Oh,

Alexander

okay. Okay.

Jeff

Yeah. So I thought, you know, she's super strong, but she's small, so people are gonna underestimate how strong she

Alexander

is. Right.

Nick

She is unfortunately, like, short.

Jeff

She's fairly small, but she's she's very strong.

Alexander

Sorry. By the time we came back to you, I forgot that you were like, you had a full Marvel. Female Marvel.

Jeff

Versus Nick and I

Alexander

who are putting together a hodgepodge, me even more so. Yeah. And Nick just I wanna see the chaos.

Nick

I wanna see the chaos.

Jeff

So, yeah. So I'm I'm like I said, once again, this is a character that is closer to to normal than kinda superhero kind of. And so I really wanted to do it but I also wanted these characters as they work together to get better as they work together. So I'm I'm building a team from the beginning and letting them grow into these positions.

Nick

You're like you're like this will this will be a story that happens where they all end up on a basketball team not knowing that they have superpowers and then developing this cool, like, alternate universe where they start fighting crime and then also hoop on, like, in their free time. Yeah.

Alexander

And they're also a cool basketball team.

Jeff

This basketball team fights the bat. Although, I'm not sure that Black Cat is Black Cat's both good and bad.

Alexander

I was like, I don't know how much of a team player she would be in this situation. Actually, I don't even know how much of a team player Jessica Jones is.

Nick

You've chosen two, like, reclusive characters. Yes.

Jeff

The third one's gonna bring them together.

Nick

Oh, okay.

Jeff

We got are there the shooters, the charismatic one? As always.

Alexander

Is is that nor is that the trope that the shooter is the carries back on?

Jeff

Yeah. So do you think of, like, LeBron James?

Alexander

Yeah. You

Jeff

think of, Steph Curry?

Alexander

Oh, okay. Okay.

Jeff

You think of Michael, Jordan? Those are all shooting guards.

Alexander

But I guess those are also, like, the really famous people.

Jeff

Right. Because they're scoring. They're the spotlight. Right. So when you think of, when you think of a point guard, like Steve Nash, who is the coach of the Golden State Warriors

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

He was kind of a point guard. Right?

Alexander

Yes.

Jeff

Not Steve Nash. Steve Nash was a point guard. He was another thing.

Nick

But You can say any name to us.

Alexander

Yeah. I know. We all agree.

Jeff

You're doing

Nick

a great job.

Jeff

But there there there's there's these guys that are point guards that are considered kind of they don't score a lot. They get assists, which no one really they look at it as, okay, that's a complimentary player.

Alexander

Right.

Jeff

Right? The center the center used to get a lot of attention, but because there's so much shooting outside the three point range

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

And the center doesn't normally do that. Their hands are too big. They, you know, they're not dribbling the ball. It's not the not the thing.

Alexander

It's a Their hands are too big. That's the thing.

Jeff

So when you have to shoot a, a three point shot, you have to get fingers on the ball and shoot it. And when you have really big hands, it's hard to get the control of the ball.

Alexander

It's crazy to think about. That's insane to think

Jeff

about. Yeah. I mean, so but but if you you're getting a ball and you're dunking it, you have complete control over the ball.

Nick

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

So it's it's the difference between you grabbing a baseball or you grabbing a softball. Think about how much control you have over a baseball as compared to

Nick

a softball.

Alexander

Softball is so much bigger.

Nick

Yeah. So true?

Alexander

This is turning into, like, an explain it to me episode

Nick

of just basketball with, like, fun little snubbing around it. Which I think is fine. I think it it

Jeff

Yeah. I mean, I I I love the centers. This has been this is these are the people that I love. Oh,

Nick

okay. Okay.

Jeff

There used to be a guy Wait. Wait.

Alexander

Can I ask you why you love them?

Jeff

I love the physical inside game, which is crazy. So I was

Nick

like, what?

Jeff

Out of the three so me and Steve, my brother, used to go and play basketball after we got done working at basketball tournaments. So it'd be midnight, and we would be hitting the courts playing basketball.

Alexander

Just like one on one?

Jeff

No. No. No. It'd be five on five.

Alexander

Wait. I'm sorry. There's a, like, just people tell There are 10 people in the court at midnight.

Jeff

There's usually 12 or 15, and they're and you're doing pickups.

Alexander

Oh, you're, like, kicking people out. You're, like, oh, you're not good enough to play with them.

Nick

You're rotating.

Jeff

You're rotating. So the five people that lose get off, and the next guy so you have someone come up and says, we got next. So there'll be three of them, and they'll pull two people off the losing team to play, whoever wants to play. And there's people rotating tonight. We could we would play till one or two Okay. In the morning. And, Steve who is six four

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah. He's a big guy.

Jeff

He loved the outside. Mhmm. So he would do three point shots all the time. Me

Alexander

Let's go.

Jeff

I'm inside. I'm bumping. I'm grinding. I'm elbowing, and I'm getting rebounds and whatever. So it was really it's just what you enjoy doing.

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

And then so the other part of this is that there's a lot of trash talking in the center.

Nick

Oh, okay.

Jeff

So Jessica Jones would be perfect for the trash talking as the center.

Nick

Wait. I love Ang as the center. I'm so content with my I'm glad I switched. I don't think Sauron ever trash talks. He's just too arrogant to.

Alexander

I'm I'm glad Akrid's my center. The trash talk is just spitting venom. Those are all the

Nick

Spit actual poison.

Jeff

Actual venom. Yes.

Alexander

Wow. Yeah. That's really interesting. It's hard to imagine you, like, trash talking if I'm gonna be honest.

Jeff

I I did not do a lot of trash talking except for did you see that? Did you see that? Because I I would I would be bumping into him and they'd be, like Yeah. Trying to bump back and all of a sudden I just lay up in and then they'd be like, what?

Alexander

Yeah. You're like, alright. Enough talking. Let's listen.

Jeff

And so most of these guys so this was at the University of Virginia. So it was a place called the Dell. And, most of the guys that were playing there were in their early twenties.

Alexander

Mhmm.

Jeff

And Steve and I were 17, 16, 18, 17, you know, right around that age or one year apart. So Yeah. We were still in high school.

Alexander

Mhmm.

Jeff

So we were definitely out. I mean, there were some guys in their late twenties.

Nick

Oh, it's so old. Compared to us.

Jeff

Right? Yeah. These are grown men. And then the UVA basketball players would come out there also.

Alexander

At like midnight? Wait. Yeah. This is like a popping area.

Jeff

They kinda shut it down.

Alexander

I can imagine.

Jeff

They they shut it down a few years ago because, one of the shooting guards for UVA was out there

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

And he got hurt because they were, it was not, there weren't a lot of fouls called.

Alexander

Right.

Jeff

Yeah. You know, it's like get up again. It's a

Nick

loose game.

Jeff

Right. Yeah. So, but but for the basketball players, they loved going out there

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

And just balling for that for fun because they weren't doing drills, they weren't doing runs.

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

It wasn't it was them just showing their time. And they were these guys were as tall as me, like some of the shorter basketball players are tall as me, but they were a hundred times better than me.

Alexander

Right.

Jeff

They were just running circles around us and they were out there just having a good time. And and that's what it was. It was a lot of us just having a good time out there playing.

Alexander

I think you'd really enjoy Ted Lasso. If you get a chance to watch Ted Lasso, there is a scene in the show where one of and this is soccer, futbol Futbol. Where one of the players is not is, like, not doing well. He's struggling, and one of the coaches takes him to, like, a a suburb, like, an area in London, and he makes him play pickup, like, soccer with with these random people. And this player is like, bro, what are you talking about?

I'm on a professional soccer team. Like, I'm not gonna play with these people. Like, come on. I'm way better than this. And, this, like, one girl, like, steals from him Mhmm. And he's like, oh, no. And he gets so into it. And at the end of it, he's, like, back in love with soccer because he's just having fun Yep. On the field. And that's kinda like exactly what I'm imagining here.

So it is kinda sad that one of the players got hurt while, like, they were just trying to have fun, blow up some steam, enjoy, like, the love of

Jeff

the game. Yeah. I mean, I I think that these guys, they needed a break at midnight or 01:00. Usually they're they're done with their studies study sessions and whatever because, you know, they are students. Right. Yeah. And so they just was and there was and it was really a combination of locals and and college students and, you know, it was it was just a lot of fun.

Alexander

Which begs a question here. Do you think Faker plays Aram to blow off steam? I don't.

Nick

Weird, weird transition. I'm pretty sure it's like, Faker doesn't have hobbies.

Alexander

Yeah. Well, that's what I'm saying is like, not saying that he has to have hobbies, but like, I'm thinking like, I don't know, I'm thinking like professional level players, like Faker, the best or like the most recognizable League of Legends players in the world. Yeah. Do you think that he plays like ARAM or just like

Nick

I'd like to think he does.

Alexander

Yeah. Just just a blow off steam and be like, this is why I started playing League of Legends. It's like It's just like fun here.

Nick

Simple playing gun game. You know? Yeah. Yeah. You know, it you're like, okay. Well Yeah. You just like just

Alexander

I'm thinking like I was about to I don't know any NFL players, but like Travis Kelce. Right? Mhmm. Do you think that, like, he goes out and has have fun with, like, football? I don't even know if I don't even think there's, like, pick up

Jeff

football games. They're they're not pick up football games, but you know what these guys do? They get online and they play Madden. Yeah. Yeah. It's regular guys, right? And they they love playing that game next time. And then

Alexander

they're getting smoked by like a 12 year old. Yeah.

Jeff

There's a 12 year old that's ours to play. Look at this. Look at this Kelsey character. I can make him do anything. And he's sitting there going, yeah. He can. You know? So but but, you know, because we talked about this is that these NFL players and NBA players, they're really protective of their virtual selves in these games. Because I see I see, like, receivers tweeting out, no. I'm not an 89. I'm a 90 when it comes to speed.

Alexander

Well, I think, like, it's kind of weird with this, where you are giving a real person real stat numbers. Yeah. And so I think a part of me, if I was in that position, would be like, come on, you think my speed is a six?

Nick

Like that guy over there is faster than me? Yeah, that's what I'm saying. We'll race right now and do better changes. Exactly.

Jeff

But there was one receiver that said that I should have the highest number and I'll race any other receiver to

Alexander

prove it.

Nick

That's what

Jeff

I'm saying.

Nick

I feel like you gotta

Alexander

have that energy.

Jeff

And and I think that when when they go it's funny because like receiver against the safety Yeah. They'll talk about how they beat each other in Madden.

Nick

Of course.

Jeff

And so it's it's one of those crazy things.

Alexander

Yeah. And I think the the interesting thing about that it's like when patches happen, like, the meta changes, like, who's good changes. So you can, in a way, have that kind of influence of being like, hey, I think I should be better.

Jeff

Well, so here's the other part of this, and this is the the bad part of the mortality of it. Suppose you're a top player. Mhmm. Couple years later, you're number 20 or 30 on the list. Sure. Then you then you start going, you know, the end of my career is coming. Yeah. You know? So these guys, they take that very seriously, you know?

Alexander

It's true. But they all start like walking away with like $400,000,000 and then you

Jeff

go home in their mansion. Yeah. Whatever.

Nick

Oh, whatever. You know, just getting set up for life.

Jeff

Yeah. Some of them do. Yeah. I agree. Yeah. So anyway Well,

Alexander

you gotta be smart with the money. Yep. Yeah. Alright, team. Wow, Nick, you finished your drink. I really liked it. I think this is good. I haven't finished mine yet, but I think we're gonna switch to a new drink and close out our wonky team.

Nick

We'll see you in a second, Adrian.

Alexander

And we're back, and we have three extraordinary looking, drinks. How am I said dishes? Like we're back on, like, like we're back on Chopped? Holy cow, what's happening to me? Yeah. Where am I?

Nick

Back on Chopped. Chefs, please step forward

Alexander

with your dishes. Please step forward with your dishes. This looks very different than the other two drinks that we had here, and I like the choice of glass as well.

Jeff

It looks refreshing.

Nick

It does. Yeah. So, we talked about this briefly when I was saying that there were options for, tequila cocktails.

Alexander

Mhmm.

Nick

I wanted to put in a more fruity option. I wanted to see what a more refreshing drink would, do with this tequila.

Alexander

I kinda like that we're ending with the refreshing one.

Nick

That's what I'm hoping. It should be the lightest of them. Okay. The margarita is also really light.

Jeff

Yeah.

Nick

But this one should be pretty good. This is the El Diablo. I thought it was also fitting with the name. Yeah. But it it I don't exactly know why it's called that because it the the recipe is tequila, creme de casis

Jeff

Casis, yep.

Alexander

Which is just Don't don't look to him for how to pronounce it. Wait

Jeff

a minute.

Nick

Wait a minute.

Jeff

I have the best language skill.

Nick

I'm just double checking. Which, is a black currant liqueur. Unfortunately, it is a special order and our local ABC store did not have it, so we picked up a black raspberry liqueur. Yeah. Black raspberry liqueur. Which should have a similar effect. And then, lime juice and topped off with ginger beer. Ginger

Alexander

beer. So it

Nick

should have it's it's a sparkling drink.

Alexander

Okay.

Jeff

Interesting. So it should be refreshing.

Nick

It should be refreshing. That is the intention.

Alexander

I don't even know what to expect, what this will taste like. Yeah. So may as well just jump in here.

Nick

Dumb. Ding.

Jeff

Unfortunately, when you say when I saw black raspberry, I was I kept thinking blue raspberry like Kool Aid.

Nick

Blue. No. No. That is not that is

Alexander

what I

Nick

hope not.

Alexander

No. We're about to find out.

Jeff

So the ginger beer is kind of the first thing you taste.

Alexander

I agree. It's very apparent.

Jeff

And then It's actually like the

Alexander

most I taste.

Jeff

Yeah. And then you get that ghost pepper at the end.

Nick

Once again, you feel it more than you taste it.

Jeff

And I don't taste the tequila very strongly in here.

Nick

It's really easy to drink. Yeah.

Jeff

It is very easy to drink. And I think the black raspberry worked okay.

Alexander

I think so too. Yeah. And then this is a fruity drink. It's got that ginger beer that kinda hits you in the beginning there. It stays in your mouth and then still this tequila. Like the very back of my throat kinda up here as well, I'm really feeling it.

Jeff

And the black raspberry is very mild.

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

I'm gonna go to

Nick

this at a bar. Yeah.

Jeff

I'm so surprised about how much that's ghost pepper comes out.

Nick

It's so fun. I really

Jeff

like it. Yeah. I this is a fun drink.

Nick

That's a that's a fun one.

Jeff

That's a it's a very different one.

Alexander

Good choice. All around, great choices. Great job, Nick. You made all these drinks very different. Woo woo. Woo woo. Alright.

Jeff

And Yeah. Here's what's amazing about that. So the first couple of times we we did this, we, we kinda tasted beforehand.

Nick

Yeah. Some aspect of

Jeff

it. Some aspect of it. Either the beer or whatever. These last few episodes we've said, look, we're not gonna taste it at all. We're gonna let it just go. You're basically creating these blind from a taste standpoint.

Nick

From a taste standpoint. I'm like following recipes as as closely as I can.

Jeff

But still Yeah. You're picking really good recipes.

Nick

Listen, I I read it and I'm like, those guys sound good. Yeah. You know? And I can trust my taste buds. That's that's one of the few things. I think my palate might not be the most sophisticated, but like for like just a good drink, I think I can do that. So

Jeff

I I I always equate this to me cooking a meat dish for you guys.

Nick

Yeah. That's fair.

Jeff

Why is it the same? Because I I I'd have no idea what

Nick

he doesn't he doesn't taste the meat.

Alexander

He's saying like he doesn't taste it before and is what you're equating

Jeff

it to.

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah. But I I feel like that is the unfortunate thing is like you're cooking meat and you're like, well, I hope I did well, maybe they'll enjoy it. This is Nick goes, oh, well, I hope I made a good job and then we all get to enjoy it together.

Nick

It's also like, I think I might enjoy that. Like I'm looking forward to making it and drinking it.

Jeff

Alright, I think you go first this time.

Alexander

Yeah, I'll go first here.

Jeff

Who's your shooter?

Alexander

Yeah, just as a reminder in case you've gotten lost in what this team composition looks like here, we've got Slenderman, the character from the horror game Slenderman, as my point guard. We have Acrid from the Risk of Rain two, game, and then to close it out as my sorry, Akrid's my center. To close it out for, my team, my shooter, the one who's gonna be dropping dimes, dropping buckets, it's none other than Olimar from the Pikmin series or really what I know Olimar most from, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. I'm sorry.

Nick

I'm going too quickly, Claire.

Alexander

Or just Super Smash Brothers series. Yeah. What's up?

Nick

Are you familiar with the height of Olimar? Yeah.

Alexander

He's he's like tiny, right?

Nick

He is half the width of a iPod. Wait.

Alexander

I didn't realize he was that small. Wait. No. It's fine. I'm keeping it.

Nick

So, like, an iPod laying down, he's half of that size.

Alexander

Yeah. We'll say from the Super Smash Brothers series where he's like the size of he's like short, but he's not that small. Okay. Yeah. Just gotta clarify. Yeah. Yeah. He's saying, I didn't realize he was that tiny. Tiny.

Jeff

Here's my basketball.

Nick

Hey, I mean, he's

Alexander

picking up those Pikmin. Those those guys are heavy. And that's that's what I'm saying. Another nonverbal character.

Nick

He has a mouth and vocal cords, but I don't think he's ever used them in his life.

Alexander

It's a Nintendo game. Why would he? Yeah. And, like, if you if you see Omar, he's just picking up Pikmin, throwing them, snipes for days, like, he also can use them to fly a little higher if he needs like, to start more

Nick

He will need that height. Yeah. He will need that height.

Alexander

And yeah. I I just think Olimar uncontested in, like, a three point shootout winning every day. I don't Yeah, look, Kaitlyn Clark, Steph Curry, Steph Bub.

Nick

Olimar. Olimar. The world will know his name.

Jeff

The shooter.

Nick

What a inter you have like two horrifying, like, monsters that are like more than willing to like rip you limb from limb. And then you have Olimar who like awkwardly walks because he's in a spaceman outfit.

Alexander

Yeah. And he's, like, farming alien plant creatures. Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

What was the theme for yours again?

Nick

A cohesive team? How are they friends?

Alexander

Look. They don't need to talk. They just need to play ball.

Jeff

They can't talk.

Alexander

Yeah. I'm paying them enough to not think about it. They just need to score points.

Nick

I don't know if your, like, conditions really match what you've drafted.

Alexander

This is what

Nick

I'm okay.

Jeff

This is what I'm saying.

Alexander

To be honest, I had a I had a team drafted up with Medusa being the center point here back when I thought the center meant something totally different. Yeah. And that went out the window. And I pivoted. And, those tenants, no longer there. They fell to the wayside. And instead I thought, just about skill and ability, and what would make an interesting team?

Nick

I'd watch them.

Jeff

I'd watch them too. Exactly.

Alexander

That's what I as as a fan of spectator sports, as a fan of esports, of, like, broadcast and production, what a nightmare it would be. We we didn't talk about this,

Nick

but I want to challenge you and you start thinking about this too. Oh. If they had a team name. And I'll think about mine as well. Oh my god. If Akrid, Slenderman, and Olimar joined up and we're like, we're we're entering as this team.

Alexander

Yeah. Instinct. Quick. Quick? Creepy flowers is my The creepy flowers.

Nick

Perfect. Perfect. It's perfect.

Jeff

I have no imagination. You know I can't do this.

Alexander

Marvel

Jeff

women. Yeah. I'll think about it. Anyways.

Alexander

Well, you're going next.

Nick

Okay. Right.

Jeff

So once again going back to the female Marvel characters that are not greatly known, I'm gonna say the name and then let's see if you guys know who she is. Kate Bishop.

Nick

Yeah. Yep.

Jeff

She is the Hawkeye character.

Alexander

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Jeff

The next Hawkeye character. And I thought she can throw knives, she can throw whatever, and she would be able to get into the basket.

Nick

She's got the accuracy.

Jeff

She's got the accuracy to do that. Plus she's young, the three women together would be able to grow together, get better together. So and once again going back to kind of a common day person, a normal person that doesn't really have superhuman powers, but has great ability.

Nick

Yeah, it's true. Of like Marvel superheroes in general, you did choose three that are, like, fairly, like, low to the ground. Jessica Jones is, like, superhuman.

Jeff

Yep. Yeah.

Nick

But, like, the other two are basically just human.

Jeff

Just human. I I wanted the I wanted the team to be relatable and not be

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

You know, like I said, we we talked about this. I had a really tough time figuring out what to do.

Alexander

Yeah. I just I'm just imagining now putting that team up against my monstrosity that I've put together.

Nick

I think both teams wouldn't care. They would be like, we're here to win, and that's like it.

Jeff

I I think those three women would be very ferocious. Yeah. Yeah. They would be

Nick

They're all fairly competitive and don't wanna lose.

Jeff

They don't wanna lose.

Nick

Yeah. And I feel like your team just acts on instinct or something. Like, like, they just are like instinct to ball or something.

Jeff

So now I gotta figure out the nine

Alexander

I'd have to Pavlov them. Like, you score a basket, you get like a little bit

Nick

of A tree? Yeah. You get a tree.

Alexander

Here's Slenderman. Here's a fresh sacrifice for you.

Nick

Here's another girl collecting papers.

Alexander

Yeah, true. I forgot the main purpose of that game is to go collect, like, journal papers.

Nick

Eight pages. Yeah.

Alexander

Holy cow, that that game came out so long ago. Yeah. It's kinda crazy to think about. Yeah. What what I feel like you could go for, like, a normal name. Yeah.

Jeff

It could be like the Wildcat or something like that.

Nick

Like from High School Musical?

Alexander

That's nice? Yeah. Have you watched, have you

Nick

been watching High School Musical lately?

Jeff

I haven't seen High School Musical in twelve years, fourteen years,

Nick

something like that. I feel like you could go with like,

Jeff

exciting. So there's also a Goldie Hawn film that had where she's a coach of a football team.

Nick

Yeah. They're called the Wildcats?

Jeff

They're called the Wildcats also.

Nick

I mean

Alexander

I'm I'm trying to

Jeff

Could be Thundercats.

Nick

Oh. Thunder Thundercats. Honestly, I feel like some of them are nerdy. They could probably do that.

Alexander

Yeah. I'm trying to think of like Jessica Jones, Kate Bishop don't like, they just, like, use their names.

Nick

Right? Yeah.

Alexander

Black cat. You you've got black cat as the only thing.

Nick

Name's Felicity.

Jeff

Felicity something. Yeah.

Nick

I don't remember her last name.

Alexander

Also, it's interesting. I feel like these characters are relatively not mainstream, but you also chose two characters that have, like, TV series.

Jeff

Yeah. I mean, I think that that does influence it because Jessica Jones, I really liked I liked her series Yeah. On Netflix. Okay. I thought her series was okay.

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

But when she played with,

Nick

Daredevil?

Jeff

Well, there was So Luke Cage Daredevil? Luke Cage. She she did Luke Cage and then she did the one with the defenders.

Nick

Defenders.

Jeff

Which was Luke Cage,

Nick

Arnfus and Arnfus and

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

And so I thought that when she she was in the Luke Cage room because she killed Luke Cage's fiance. Woah.

Alexander

Spoilers. Spoiler.

Jeff

Well, he doesn't know that till the end of the Luke Cage series.

Alexander

Super spoilers, though. Uh-oh.

Jeff

But that was that series was ten years ago.

Nick

So Don't say that. I I don't know if I believe you.

Alexander

That can't be true.

Nick

I don't know if I believe you.

Alexander

Holy cow.

Jeff

It's like 2015. Wow.

Nick

Yeah. That was wow. It's getting there.

Jeff

Anyways, so, yeah, let's go Thundercats.

Nick

Thundercats.

Alexander

Thundercats. Thundercats home. Alright. Alright, Nick. Finish us off. I'm in love with your team so far. I think that the dynamic between Sauron and Aang would be incredibly Yeah. Tense and awful and would make a beautiful reality TV show.

Nick

Of course. Sauron as my point guard, perfect gassing. Aang, you know, he can he can stop anything. No. We need we need someone to to be the the force to to leave an impact as the shooter to to really rally them together Okay. Against them. Yeah. So, obviously, my shooter will be Megumin from Kona Tsuburashi. No way. I've never seen her miss a stationary target and

Alexander

That's what a hoot is.

Jeff

Okay. You're gonna have to explain. For those who don't know anime

Nick

So KonoSuburashi is a joke anime. It is just a pure comedy farce. If you can imagine, just the stupidest things that you could ever imagine, that's what happens in that show.

Jeff

So it's basically Monty Python.

Nick

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Alexander

Yeah. It's sort of I mean, in a way, it's, like, similar. It's very, like, slapstick humor. It takes a lot of, like, very classic anime tropes and just kinda, like, turns them upside down and shakes them for money. Yeah. She is a character

Nick

that is a mage. It it it's like a magical world. And she is a mage that, uses one spell, only knows one spell. She refuses to learn another, which is explosion. But she has mastered it to such a degree that it's basically like a small nuclear bomb every time she uses it. However, when she uses it, she passes out due to exhaustion. She, like, can't move.

Alexander

So Yeah. She's I think the part of the humor here is that she is still conscious, and she doesn't fully pass out. She just, like, collapses and can't move. She can't move.

Nick

But she talks to you. I think she's perfect. If she's not casting explosion like I said, I've never seen her miss a stationary target. It doesn't matter the fact that the radius is absurd on her spells. She's never missed it. So I feel like she could just view the basketball as a small explosion. Yeah. And, She's good for one point. Three points?

Jeff

No. You're right. I'm not She

Nick

never has missed at a stationary target. She will get the maximum. She is all about the maximum. I don't know what you're talking about. Why one point? She will get three points every time.

Alexander

You're right. Maybe by the time they rebuild the hoop after she explodes it, she'll be up and ready to cast it.

Nick

It's basically the case where she'll get the three point and then render the entire court unusable and therefore win by default. Yeah. But yeah, I think I think she she works perfectly with my team. Her being added to the the character team, she would add personality, she would not like Sauron because he's too edgy and evil. Right. And, she well, actually, she might she might like Sauron more than Aang, to

Alexander

be honest. It's kinda

Nick

She she'd probably fangirl over Sauron a little bit and then Aang would be confused and then, they would be annoyed and then Sauron wouldn't like Megumin. Yeah. And then Aang would probably like Megumin because she's just like a person. Yeah. There's no reason not to like her. Well, and then they'd it'd just be like a triangle of like like and dislike. And team named Sam.

Alexander

Team named Sam.

Nick

Yep. Because that's the only one they would agree on. Sauron, Aang, and Megumin. Yes. That is the only one they would ever agree on. Or Moss. Moss or it would just be team explosion because Megumin is the one pushing for the most on the team.

Alexander

Yeah. Oh my gosh. Wow. I don't know what I was expecting for your last one. Not that, but that's phenomenal. I love that so much. Maybe if we ever do this again, we do like, I don't know, we build teams based on, like, series. Because I think it'd be so interesting to think about, like, what would a a, like, Kona, Subaru, Subaru team look like with, like, Megumin, darkness, and, oh, shoot.

Nick

There's four of them actually. Aqua?

Alexander

Yeah, there's Aqua and the main character is Subaru. Subaru. His name's not Subaru,

Jeff

is he?

Alexander

No. What's his name? Cosmo. Cosmo, that's his name. Subaru's from ReZero. Subaru's from ReZero. Oh my gosh. Look Oh my gosh. They all look they all look the same. They are Intentionally so. They are both

Nick

medium height, brown haired Japanese guys in track suits.

Alexander

With no distinguishable facial features.

Nick

So true. And they're perfect.

Jeff

Once again, this is why I love the art form of art form of anime. I just I don't have the time in order to watch it.

Nick

So fair.

Alexander

Speaking of which though, we do gotta watch. Apparently, I think a part of what sparked this and something I meant to say at the top of of this show is that we weren't gonna do anything that was like larger than life or would like instantly destroy the, like the court Environment? Yeah, that they stepped into. Because you said something really interesting. You said, oh, yeah, I would just do those those naked guy those naked giant guys from that one anime.

And I went, what? And immediately looked to Nick like, what are you showing

Nick

now? And apparently because there isn't only one answer.

Alexander

Apparently the right answer was Attack on Titan.

Nick

Yeah, that's the one I feel like everyone instinctively drew to when hearing that statement.

Alexander

I hope. Probably, maybe. But yeah, it just it made me interested because I feel like we've shown you a bunch of different anime.

Jeff

Yeah. I mean, we've seen Dragon Slayer.

Nick

Demon Slayer.

Jeff

Demon Slayer.

Nick

Yeah. Yeah. No. No. You're good. You're good.

Jeff

Keep going. Keep going. Dragon Slayer is a movie.

Alexander

Which we need to catch up because we have only seen season one. Have you

Nick

seen the movie?

Jeff

No. I haven't seen the movie.

Alexander

I haven't even seen

Nick

the movie.

Alexander

Movie's good.

Nick

You'd catch up to me if you watched the movie?

Jeff

We've, we've seen quite a few episodes of,

Alexander

one Do your best. One Piece.

Jeff

One Piece.

Alexander

There we go. Alright.

Nick

Quite a few means that they're still

Alexander

They've seen under 50. At episode 21.

Nick

Out of eleven twenty two.

Jeff

Anyways, we're we're watching, Delicious and Dungeon

Nick

right now.

Alexander

Delicious and Dungeon. Yep.

Jeff

We

Alexander

We're on episode four of that, I think.

Jeff

Yeah. We watched the vampire one. Castlevania?

Alexander

That's not an anime, but yes, we have seen Castlevania.

Nick

We also did watch A Vampire Dies in No Time. Yep. That one too.

Jeff

Yep. So they're they're, like, all over the place.

Nick

Way of the House Husband. Way

Alexander

of the House Husband.

Nick

That's a great that's a great one. I forgot about that one.

Jeff

The Ghibli movie we saw.

Alexander

Yes. We've seen Spirited Away.

Jeff

Spirited Away.

Alexander

Yep. And Hells. Have we seen Hells? We've seen Hells.

Jeff

We've seen Hells too. And I love Spirited Away. Yes.

Alexander

I'm really happy you and mom both seemed to enjoy that movie. Yeah.

Nick

And then we watched Yujiro Senki. We did Tanya's the saga of Tanya the evil.

Alexander

Yeah. Did we ever finish that? Yep. Oh, nice.

Jeff

So, yeah. So I mean, I think we we've seen

Nick

You've seen an interesting variety,

Alexander

I would say.

Jeff

Yeah. I mean, I think that that's what you guys are trying to do. You're trying to expose different things to us.

Nick

Yeah.

Jeff

And We're doing our best while we raise you. Yeah. I mean, I think, you know, we hear interesting things like Into the Abyss. Right?

Nick

Which you say Made in Abyss. Made in Abyss is a really rough watch.

Jeff

And that's what you said. You said you can watch it, but Yeah. It's gonna be a it's a rough one to be entertained by.

Alexander

Why don't we start with, Promise Neverland?

Jeff

So so he's watched a lot more anime than

Alexander

Than both of us.

Nick

I get so stressed thinking about both of those shows. Season two, Promised Neverland, I was less stressed.

Alexander

That's what I'm saying is I think we just watched season one.

Nick

The movie of Made in Abyss. I still think about that.

Alexander

It is

Nick

so grim.

Jeff

Yeah. I it is a terrible theme, but as I've said, anime has the ability to stretch and to do incredible things Yeah. That that make you think about what you're watching.

Nick

So true. So true.

Jeff

Yeah. Anyways.

Nick

I think that a

Alexander

lot of media have that ability. I think anime has an ability in what a lot of people, if they're not familiar with anime, think of, like, cartoons as, like, very, like, childlike, or they think about American animation specifically here, like, in America. They think about American animation. And so in their mind, that's, like, Rick and Morty, that's, like, the Simpsons, that's, like, American Dad, and they don't understand what animation could be, because they think either it's for kids or it's like adult humor with, like, very little, like, actual animation involved in it. And

Nick

It's either Disney or Adult Swim. Yeah. Exactly.

Jeff

And we always joke about this. Like, when we saw the anime versions of Visions with from Disney.

Nick

Oh, Star Wars.

Jeff

Yeah. I think we saw it there's so many different art styles.

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff

And it was remarkable to see these studios take one storyline and really make it very different and uniquely their own.

Alexander

Yeah. Yeah. For sure.

Jeff

So anyways, this is becoming an explain it video. Well, I mean,

Nick

I feel like it's we just talk, you know? Yeah.

Jeff

Anyways That that's a part

Alexander

of it is I think we're just having fun talking and that's kind of why this was created just to sit down and talk and also drink some alcohol, which on that note here, unless anyone else has any last thoughts.

Nick

I will say Yes. I think throwing this out, if we ever get comments Yeah. Let us know if you want to see more fantasy teams. Trumbull. For other sports, it's harder to do, like, a whole team or a roster. But, like, for football, like a quarterback, you know, a runner, you know, and then like a a A catcher.

Alexander

Yeah. A receiver. Receive. Yeah. Oh, you're saying like a tight end, a wide receiver, and a quarterback.

Nick

Yeah. Or baseball where you have like who's your pitcher, who's your heavy hitter, and who's your outfielder, you know? Who's like that?

Alexander

But like We can't mess around with this.

Nick

But I think it's a fun concept, or if like there's something weirder that we can't even think of. I invite you.

Jeff

Make a lacrosse team.

Nick

And your escape. Make make a lacrosse team, you know, put it put us on a toboggan team.

Alexander

Yeah. Who's your Obsledding team. Who's on your

Nick

yes. Yeah. Who's who's your dream curling team?

Alexander

You know? That actually would be fun.

Nick

Okay. Really quickly before we

Alexander

run out of time here. We had three very unique and interesting drinks tonight. I'll start with dad. We'll go with Nick. Actually, I'll do me a second. I wanna hear Nick's opinion last. What was your favorite drink?

Jeff

Number one, I loved the tequila.

Alexander

Mhmm. Yeah. I agree.

Jeff

I think it was it's it was so different, so unique. I loved tasting in it. I love Margaritas on the Rock. Yep. So tasting that twist on it really touched the spot with me. I love the third one, not not big on

Alexander

Yeah.

Jeff

Yeah. Yeah. But the the margarita was my favorite.

Alexander

Okay. So number one was your favorite. Nice. I like that. I agree. This tequila is insane. I think it's great. I'd love to use it more, so huge shout out to Chesapeake Bay Distillery.

Nick

True.

Alexander

They did a great job. They were cooking with this one. I'm excited to try their other alcohol. Exactly. I really liked all the drinks here. I actually think the margarita was not my favorite, like, was kind of my least favorite, but like, they're all good. Yeah. The Bloody Mary was really good. Something about this, I really like this. I would definitely go to a bar and like order this and drink this, just over and over. It goes down so easy. It's it's just good.

Nick

I think this might be a rarity.

Alexander

Oh. Where we choose we

Nick

all choose three separate drinks. I really, really like the bloody Maria whatnot. I agree. I I think I would have liked to put the Tabasco in, and some of the other hot sauces to see what it really did because I was missing some of the bite, but I did like a mellow I did like the mellow, like, bloody Mary with like just the heat just like kinda like being there.

Alexander

True.

Nick

It was really easy to drink. I mean, I downed it really quick.

Alexander

You downed it. Yeah.

Nick

And it was just like it was very satisfying. I I was I was a big fan. Yeah.

Alexander

Alright. Well, that's it and that's our time. We'll see you next time. See you later, team.

Nick

See you later.

Jeff

Take it easy.
