This is the two seventeen Recovery podcast with Corey Winfield. Stuff went numb. That shouldn't go numb, you know what I'm saying. I was like, what is it? No, I don't, No, you don't. And co host Marnie Winfield, it was kind of an awkward thing. He's like, would you guys want come along? Can you get away to come to the island. I'm like, yeah, we just got back from there. It is the twenty second of May twenty twenty three. My name's Corey Winfield.
Marnie not with us today, but I do have special guests as we podcast from the North Studio today. Mitchell O'Brian Mitchell, how are you today? I am doing wonderful. Adam Stevens, how are you doing today? Fantastic, excellent. And this is a very improv to podcast this morning because I realized that the last broadcast we did from the you fam rally, which Chill you were on Believe It or Not, and it didn't record because I
didn't reset the spreaker studio. I was lost when we lost power, so it pretty much just had like eighteen minutes of dead air of just nothing, which it's about the same. It's not right though, because that was your chance to shine, Mitch, because I was like, hey, everybody at the U fan rally, we're gonna jump on, we're gonna do a little bit of a break together. And that was your moment to shine. And you said the most amazing things during that, of course, and then it
didn't record, So I'll give you another chance. I'm always shining, That's what I do. Yeah, you, So, how how did you guys? What would you say? Your takeaway was? Then from the U fan rally, we took away a lot less shirts than we brought. We did. Yeah, Um, it was kind of cool to be in the community and to see all the other people there to support it, and to meet some familiar faces that I haven't met in person yet. So that was really
neat. Familiar faces you haven't met in person yet, Yeah, familiarly, you know, we've seen them on Oh you're talking about Grayson, you could just say your name, well, Grayson. And even some of the ATS people that were there that I've never actually met. I mean they're like right across the street, but I never actually met them. And got to meet some politicians that was interesting. Would you talk to them about they wanted to
know what we were all about. It was funny because they never told me who they were or what they did until after they grilled me about what two seventeen was, and I was like, ah, no, I get it. Yeah, senator to this and whatever that. I was like, well, you can go back to being where you don't want to be, mister Joe something or other. Yeah. I don't know if he's ever gotten emails for me, but a lot of people have. What about you, Adam, What was your takeaway? Oh? Yeah, sorry, welcome, good
morning. Um. Yeah, that kind of like what Mitch said. It was nice to see. I was surprised to see how big the turnout was. Uh, you know, there's a lot of people involved, so that was really nice to see. Um and yeah, being my first time there, it was just uh, I just kind of took it in and I didn't know what to expect, but um, yeah, just really cool to see. I think next year would be uh, you know, it'd be or if we go back next year'd be nice to get more involved and really
walk around and talk to more people or whatever. But I think just kind of taking it in this time, and there's been a nice experience. Neither one of you guys were or tasked with the wireless Yeah, and I figured i'd be a little much for you guys, And it was both of your first time there, so it was it was Yeah, you just kind of take it in and just kind of like next year when we go, you'll know what to expect, you know, kind of, hey, this is
what we're gonna say up. And I really want that back alley to be podcast alley or not that back alley, but kind of where we were, you know. And then of course Reservation Conversation they were next to us. And if we could get a couple more podcasts back there, I think that would be a lot of fun. It would be the front Lawn podcast, podcast Row intermingle go from different ones. Yeah, oh yeah. And it was like last year, let me where we were when we were trying to
broadcast. You could hear it through the microphones and everything, you know, So where we were this year, I think it was a lot better. We just gotta get that wireless mic dialed in, right. I don't know why it wasn't. Maybe I need to switch channels, I don't know. You guys really took you Tyrone and Justin really took the getting out and talking to people to a new level for me. I think that was that was
interesting. It's fun, it's fun and some of my We went head dinner with my old friend Ron Robinson and he worked with me at a couple of radio stations, and he started kind of laughing when Marnie was like, yeah, well, Corey he had the guys out with the wireless and he was like, oh yeah, He's like, that's Corey's thing right there. Man. He's like, I bet it was. But it was very entertaining and I was like, well, it depends who you ask, you know.
Marnie was cringing sometimes some of the stuff I was saying to ask, but you get into this different mode, especially because you're not the one asking it, I swear, and it makes me feel like, well, I'm not going to get in trouble if I tell Justin to ask this person this, even though it's politically not correct or whatever. It just takes over my brain and like it took me. It took me a couple of days to get out of that. I was even telling Marnie, hey tell that lady,
listen. She's like, what are you talking about we're an elevator. I'm not saying that to that lady, and it took her. It took me a minute though, to kind of get out of that mindset of hey, say this to that person or say this to this person. But when I finally did, it's like, okay, I need to go apologize. But no, but it's about having fun. And you know that old radio career that I had, it was fun, you know when we would do stuff like that, and so that's why I was just like, hey, you
know, let's go out there and have Justin do it. And Justin was, oh, that's the word I'm trying to think of. Awkwardly great is the way he would hit people with the how you want to buy a T shirt at the perfect wrong moment and the perfect It was just like, you can't even you can't try to do that, and he was just doing it
every time. It was just amazing. And the lady that was like trying to do the boxes and throw them away and I was like, hey, when she throws that box away and gets it all ripped up, I want you to take it out of the trash and tell her that that's not a recycling area that's trash, and he instead chose to go help her tear up the box because I was like, you neither have her throw away the boxer. You can get the box out of the trash after she's put it in
there. And that after listening to it and went back and listen to that, it was great because it was awkward as hell at the end, like there's no like just you're riding the horse into the stable and you just leap off and if things graceful, no, no, justin it's like, let's let's end this baby the most awkward way we can. Don't have a slow down, just tuck and roll. And like I wanted him to walk away
from that interview. I was like, all right, tell her thanks, So you got stuff to do. And she started talking to him like, oh, sow long you've been sober, and I'm like, oh, okay, so we have some interest here and then it just into it just I don't know, if you go back and listen to it. I think that might have been the second one. Yeah, it might have been the second
one we did that day. My favorite was you had him go to somebody with one of the Shenanians, and I don't even remember what it was, but the lady got really I don't want to say serious, but like super like into her story and that's the one where it got. It got kind of deep and meaningful. Then he threw on a do you want to buy a T? Shirt? And it just because I was standing there and trying like to talk to people at the at the table, and I couldn't.
I just I couldn't. I had to like turn away, and I was like because she's all like, yeah, I'm sober for this long and it's so great and like and all these this is why and my family and he's so T shirts. We want to buy a T shirt? Yeah, that
was I think that was. I think that was the second one because I remember, Adam, you were on that one and we were both just started laughing because it was just so obvious and it might have been you in the background, which because like you just hear people laughing, because it was just
like that wasn't far away. I mean, that's not the time to ask for that, man, that's time to tell her a great job and we appreciate, you know, the work that she's doing and it's amazing, you know, she said, she's been doing it for twenty years, but she's only been sober ten you know, she said it took her ten years to feel like to realize that she in fact had a problem, and just because in the industry working that, you know, like not everybody's in recovery,
working at the jails and doing what she did, and for her to kind of realize like, oh my god, I have a problem, you know, it was great. But yeah, she started telling that That's where I was going to be, like, Justin tell her that, you know her, your family's really proud, and I went to get that out in Justin's
but obviously what she really needed at that point was a shirt. Yeah, and then she ended up I think buying when we're she ended up donating because I told Mary, I was like, just just give her one, you know, like at this point, just give her a T shirt. And she ended up I think given a couple of bucks of donation, which was sweet. But and that was before we had somebody come home and want to
be a part of it. Yeah, that was that was Yeah, the woman Danielle, she came up and I was like, Hey, if I buy a T shirt, can I be on your podcast, and I was just thinking we would talk to her, and that turned into giving her the wireless. Yeah. She was all about it. Yeah, said it was great. It's like, man, I wish she was in Traverse City. We'd sent her out all over started doing our podcast from the front yard just to do that. You know, where's that guy where he's going? Yeah,
she was. She went to go ask the psychic that if she cut everybody in line, with somebody in that line punch her, And instead of asking the psychic, she kept asking the people in line, Hey, if I cut her, you think she'll punch me. That would have been That's good. I mean, that's funny, that's great. I'm glad that she did that. Danielle was great. I talked to her for a second. Um, if you're listening to Danielle, thank you for being all about what
you're all about. Um, that was cool. But that would have been just that would have been another too much for me, Like going up to the psychic, Hey if I cut these people in line, or they're gonna punch me because that's the person who's supposed to know or whatever, and they're like, I don't know. Then this turnound to be like, you guys
shouldn't be in this line like this is. Yeah. She asked this one guy who was wearing a Tiger's jacket because I saw Sports Center something that center fielder and messed up this catch, and I was like, what do you think about that? Asked him about that, and he's like, oh, he didn't know, and he'd been to one game last year and he couldn't
name a player, and so she kind of gave him out. She's like, well, next time, how about how about before you wear a team's shirt or coat, how about you learn at least a player's name or something. She's musting him. She said that, and I will watch them walk away and like the buddy of that guy was just giving him hell, and it was it was pretty funny because she definitely called him out. It's just like something I saw the other day. It's like, you know, just
shine your shine and your tribe will find you. That's what we were doing. Yeah, she found us. Yeah, perfect, some people like I sent her over to talk to this one lady and like, it appeared to me the lady had been maybe picking her nose a little bit, not like digging up in it, but you know, just like messing with her nose like I'm doing right now. And I was like, oh, talk to the lady that, you know picking her nose, so that lady might be
like, I was not picking my nose. And I wish you wouldn't have said that, you know, and some some people could be offended in that way, but a man that nobody knows your name, if in fact, it wouldn't man, it was something like that, but you know, don't take it personal as what I would say, and you know, be a part of the fun and and just try to go along with what we do.
And you know, I use the B word a couple times, but it was just like a hey, like what's up, bitches, you know, like, yeah, I don't know, like stuff I's trying to get tyrone or justin to say. But you know, it's it's it's part of the fun. It wasn't me. I gave gave that little bit of leeway for Satan to get in there, and he jumped right in. I don't know. And it's funny when you're dealing with, you know, people in recovery because we've been through so much and so some people don't get offended as
easy, and then some people fly off the handle really easy. It's kind of weird how they went. Like we had this one guy, there's this house and they came over and the whole they were super awesome. We're you know, selling them stuff and you know, giving them a deal. And hum. That's one guy comes over and he's like, I got whatever, can you make change? And at first we're like nope. He got so pissed, and then we're like and then Marty's like, wait, hold on,
hold on, hold on. He's like nope and just like walked away and she's like, no, we got we can and she's like we're not. And he's like nope. Just I'm like, bro, like you were just all about it. Well, let us figure it wasn't every deal, but then you can do like, you know, what we're doing was asking questions and being silly and joking around and people are just like cool about it. And so it was interesting. Some people like that guy clearly had some
other issues and no, we don't make changes. It's not what we do. And we're not a grocery store, you know, like we don't have to be you know, like a change maker to people. Not that grocery stores have to be. But yeah, no, like his expectations are like that was on that guy. You know, if I were to break down that situation, I would say, that's not that guy. He didn't get
what he wanted, so that made him mad. Okay, Well I hope he, you know, can figure that out in his life, because there's gonna be a lot of things that he can't control and a lot of outcomes that aren't going to be in his favor. And to just flip somebody off and walk away isn't really the way to handle that. You know. You got to give them a microphone and start making fun of their shirts and stuff. That's how you handle it. And you know, a little smile and
you know, like and you can do about those people. Man, they're out there all over and you know the fact that we could have fun with people while they were out there, and most of the people did understand.
Most people get it. But I've been at places where people and it used to be a friend of mine and she'd get real upset when I would would swear or something, and I'm like, oh, trust me, like you've you've said, heard and done worse than that word okay, and she's still just be like, I don't know if that's like taking other people's inventory or if that's really standing up for what you believe in, because if you don't
like something, you can change it by leaving the situation. You know, she doesn't like how I talk or how I speak, then she doesn't have to like invite me over to her house, you know, like you can do things like that. I feel like an honorable mention for the debut Fan was when Adam and I got to go on our little jaunt around the tents to see who was out there and what was going on. And we came up and we fabricated this awesome joke that had two points to it, and
they had these stress balls and we found blue ones. So we left and we were coming back, one with blue balls and two said that the guy that we talked to you knew you, Corey, so he gave us stress balls to cope with our with our jobs. And it was like we told that joke and it was like h and we were so deflated because it didn't sound very good this time either. No, it was good when we were walking around. Yeah, we liked it. We were hyped. Up on
you fam adrenaline. I think thought we were funny. It's easy to do sometimes, soaking in the positive vibes. Yeah, but how many people would you guys think, say, were there like six hundred, seven hundred and four, That's what I would I would say, I mean in my head, that's what I was thinking, around four or five hundred. I mean just off the top of my head. I mean, and they were cycling through. Yeah, I mean both those tents. I mean it was a
big area and they were packed in there. Yeah, there's a lot of people. I don't think there was more than a one or two hundred people there at any given time, though, Oh there was way more than that at once. Yeah, I feel like there wasn't and they like cycled through. There was. There was over one hundred people that were just there at the booths, like manning in the booths. So yeah, with the other people walk around, I'd stay easy, five six hundred. I took pictures,
so I'll go take a headcount. Yeah, you think you were the only person who took pictures. I almost forgot, Like last year we had tons of pictures, and this year I didn't really take any. Last year either, but um, everybody kind of just hey, here's all the pictures. Then we'd like threw them up on the website and stuff like that. So if you guys want to, I know there's a good one of you. I think Mitch took it. Yeah yeah, like like a profile.
You're like looking off into the distance. I'll stoic. Yeah, which, I to get you guys on the website today, So that's my goal. So we'll wrap the podcast up. I just wanted to do one more recap of the you fam Railly since we didn't really get to air that other one. So you lost to me. Sorry, Marnie, you couldn't. I mean, Marty, you had some good stuff to say too. I think you guys are making fun of me at some point. That's why I got lost. I said, I said some really nice things about Corey and Marny
in that one. I'm surprised you did. You did. Actually, I wasn't even trying to get like Brownie and pull your points either. What did you say? You were like, you guys are awesome or something. It was about how you both have such an obvious like trajectory in your journey, and then your journeys have brought you together, and instead of one absorbing the
other, you've become one and you're still both blossoming, but together. And it's really cool because I feel like that's what what marriage is supposed to be, that kind of a partnership. And I think a lot of times in the society you'll get one life get lost in the other when they become one
in marriage. And I don't know it was, It's just it's been nice to get to know you guys, because it just feels like you guys are I mean, you've got little issues here and there, like everybody, but it just feels like you guys are good mold for what a real marriage should be. And who would have thunk from recovery? Yeah, Harris thing nobody would ever marry my asked, and I was gonna die alone, and now you're like, got a marriage that other people want to have. Yeah,
definitely, no thing. I'm dying alone. No, I don't have a cat somewhere cats now, But I don't thanks sure that that's great that you'd say that though, And some people say yeah, but they're still newlyweds, you know, And we'll be married three years in December, so we'll see how that goes. I don't know. I still like it. It's fun and what I say to people. I've always in relationships before where I could
not wait for that person to leave the house. And I don't know if it was the drinking, because it might have been something to do with that, but I just didn't like that person and wanted them to just leave the house for a minute. I just wanted them to go. I couldn't wait counting it down. Doesn't she have to go church or something? Right now? Go? Aren't you leaving? Bye? And with Marty, I don't feel like that at all. It's always like when's she getting home? Like?
What the hell? Man? I want to talk to my friend. I know you clear jelly jars for I. Do you just put that anywhere? At them? It's a durability check? Good time? All right? Well, thanks for checking out the second wrap up from you fam. That's not actually from you fam, but yeah, maybe we'll post pictures on our website later and you can check out Adam and Mitchell's page a little bit later on today as well. Alright, check out to seventeen Recovery dot com.
Thanks gentlemen, you bet, thank you Thanks for listening to the two seventeen Recovery Podcast. We hope you come back for our next episode.
