This. It's the two seventeen Recovery Podcast with Corey Winfield and it's better Half. Marnie Winfield. Check check check check check check check check check on my phone, check on my phone, check in my caphone microphone, microphone. It is they thirteen twenty point three and my name's Cory Winfield. My name's Marny Winfield. Recovery Podcast. Spend a miss done one. Your last podcast was on Monday and it was from the Day of Education. It's done by
n MRI in Gaylord, Michigan. So spent a minute. But I've been super busy, Marnie. Let's talk about your past week and a half or two weeks. I can't remember the last podcast you did. Yeah, spent a minute. Um so yeah. I got to walk across the stage for my graduation, which was awesome. Um. You know, I kind of had debated doing it, I guess because I'm like, I know I did it. I know I accomplished it. I don't need to, I don't need to, you know, walk across the stage. But it was really
meaningful. And um, my family came, and you know, my mother in law came, all my well, all my in law's game parents, and then my parents came and their significance, so it was really it was an awesome It was an awesome day to celebrate me and my accomplishment. So if I really good, mh, I bet, And I mean I was just I just walked to high school. You know, that was pretty cool.
So I can only imagine how that felt getting your masters, and I know the hard work that you put in and to see you come from well, I met you in treatment. Yeah, so when you were in treatment and to see you come from there to there, you know, I knew that it was definitely impossible with you and I get to see you were determined to like make this time different, and that was the same attitude the feelings that I share. So I think maybe that kind of drew me to you
as well. When I met you in treatment. A lot of people know our story already, but I was the guy that was getting peanut butter for people. I wasn't your therapist or anything like. I wasn't trying to play them mack down on you, nothing like that. But people would, you know, reference you wire talking about you as oh no, she's serious, she's not playing around, And it really showed and you know, to pull
yourself up and get back on track. It takes a lot for someone who's had so many heartbreaks and just bad goes at it, you know, to just dust yourself off and get back up. You know, I'm really super proud of you, and of course I love you a lot tons So to see that, you know, I was like, that's my wife up there. You know, it was very cool and very special, you know, to see you do that, and I'm sure just feels great. And some people and maybe you could understand what I say when I'm like, Yeph,
that's cool. Let's move on to the next. You know, people can sit here and go Marty, that's great you did that, but in your mind you already have other things planned. Yeah. I mean it's like Moore
is going to be, you know, like unveiled for me. It feels like and I am you know, I didn't think it was going to be emotional, but like sitting there and then you know, they played the song, the graduation song, and I was like, I'm like, wow, this, I'm glad I came and I did earn this because that's what it is. I mean, I put a lot of work into it. It
was a goal that I had. I knew it was going to be a lot of work when I signed up for it, but I knew I had I was capable of it, and I just needed to remind myself every day that, you know, it was something that I had the potential to do and I had committed to it. So just keep tripping away, you know,
one assignment at a time, one day at a time. And that's that's kind of the approach that you know I took taken with my recovery too, is you know, it's it's something that I know that I need and that I want, and um, I know there's it's a little different because there's a survival factor there. Um, you know, I would have still lived another day if I wouldn't have out in my master's degree. But um, it's the same kind of thing that I knew I had it in me.
I just needed it to remind myself that I needed to put the work in, you know, And that's what I That's what I've been doing with my recovery and will continue to do with the rest of my life. But um, all these different avenues are just keep like showing up for me and opportunities, and it's all because I'm and doing the work for it, and so it's it's truly amazing. It doesn't happen overnight, obviously, and that'll show a lot of people up at first and early recovery. It's it feels
like it's gonna take forever. And I'm sure it felt like when you went back to school again to get your masters. I'm sure it felt like, oh, it's gonna take so long. And it did. You know, it took a bunch of nights in a row, not just one overnight. It didn't just boom happen. But you put those together, and just like your recovery, you know, you keep working at it and you keep moving forward, great things are going to happen. I'm gonna put yourself in situation.
It's gonna open more doors, and pretty soon before you know it, everybody's looking at you like, wow, that's great. You did great stuff. And you're the one saying, hey, yep, that is cool. But watch me feel them still going yeah. And there were days, I mean, honestly, there were days where I'm like I'm in way over my head, like what did I sign myself up for? You know? And even days that I was just like I can't do this, like it's too
much. But that negative thinking doesn't get me anywhere. And those are just intrusive thoughts that aren't not true, and I just needed to like shovel those away and just be like, nope, you know I can and I am, and so let's just keep going. That's great, you know. And just if you know someone's struggling or you know, going through it, just
tell them, look, it's it's day at of time. And that's why they say that a lot, you know, on recovery, it's it is it's day at of time, and you look at the big picture of it. On some people will try to get cute and like, yeah, but they told me not to think of the future. You know, don't think of the future, man, It builds anxiety. It's no, that's not what they mean. You know, when you're thinking about things that haven't happened yet, that's what can trip you up a little bit. And of course
the future hasn't happened yet. But I'm talking about like, yeah, but if I do this, then I'm gonna go there and then everybody's gonna be there, so I might as well, just drink now, or if I go there it's gonna be bad. Or if I call the electric company, they're not going to work with me, So why I can call them? You know, like that kind of future planning is not going to work.
But you can say, look, here are some goals, and here's what I want to achieve, and you know, if you don't achieve them right now, why why you didn't? You know, what didn't work? And how can you go out of a different way where you can't achieve that goal exactly? It's frustrating and I'm like, I'm like, like with through seventeen recovery like things, and again, things didn't just happen overnight. You know.
There's a lot of work, a lot of volunteer hours, you know, just a lot of things went into this to make it, you know, kind of get off the ground and look for the things that are happening
for us now. And it's great, you know, but there's a lot of more things I want to do too, and I don't know, it's just great to know that, you know, on like on yesterday, we had to leave the office and I wasn't in the office for I don't know more than a half hour, maybe hour, but I was out doing things and it was nice to know that the guys that are there, Adam justin Mitchell like they can do their job. You know. I didn't have to
worry about anything like that. So that was that was very nice to kind of for someone who doesn't trust people, you know, for trust issues. I felt really good. And I told you about that the other day or maybe it was today. I was like, you know what, it felt good that I didn't really have to worry about that. I wasn't worrying, even though I did a little but not as bad, you know. And it's it's baby stepping, and you know, we're always trying to work on
ourselves. At least I am, you know, to make myself more aware of where I'm at in life and where I want to be and again how I how I need to set goals to get myself there, and you know, becoming a better leader is something that's definitely on my list. And slowly, but surely again doesn't happen overnight. In case you're wondering, I'm not sure. If you hear this fan that does not shut off, we are not in a ritz Carlton no, no, we are not. We are.
We are on the road, of course to Mother's Day. Tomorrow is Mother's Day and it was a birthday party and a niece that I haven't met yet, so we did a little road tripping. And yeah, we're saying this room smell, it's kind of funny. And this fan does not I have not ever been in a room where the fan does not shut off. I'm talking about like the fan against the wall that blows out heat and cool
air. You know I'm talking about. You've been in a hotel like sometimes they have knobs, they used to anyway, now they have like a little push buttons. But this thing does not shut off. I've never seen that. You have options to adjust it, but you cannot turn it off. No, even we get right now it's off, but it's not off. And I don't know if I don't think these mics are picking it up.
We're not using obviously our studio mics. And what I'm using now is it's very convenient, actually, and let me see if it has a brand name to it. I got them off Amazon, and a lot of people will use these four in which we use them for your sister's wedding, yeah, like afterward getting people's shots, not shots, but getting their videos to the
bride and stuff like that. But it's a wireless microphone, and a lot of people use them in cameras, but this one actually has an adapter you can hook right up to your iPhone and we use Sprieker to do our podcast from and it has like a little studio app. So we just hit record on that and it just kind of rolls with it. And I don't know the name of it doesn't have a brand name, just as wireless microphone,
so I would plug them. But I mean it's not the best microphone in the world now, but I mean it sounds all right for what I're doing right now. For it to be like the size of I don't even know, what would you say, real grape and the grape green bean, but no, like if you're a grape tomato, a large grape tomato, but it's not that wide. It's almost like, I don't even know, Um, if you took like a regular piece piece of like twizzlers, all right,
a regular twizzler, which is like eighty five carbs. Really are you really playing this game? But nobody is. Carbs are a lot. No. I was talking about trying to figure out comparing Yah. Yeah, you take a regular like Okay, there's a Twizzler and you take a third of it. That's about the size of the microphone. So I'm what I'm saying, I'm just trying to give people what they want. They want some theater of the mine. So the third of a Twizzler. That's about how how
bab these microphones are. And they just clip running your shirts though, it's pretty sweet, and these are what we're using. The other day at the day of Recovery with Na Marie and Tyrone was like across did you hear that? I don't think, well, you were talking. I think yeah. I was with people and I was just I was not working like littlely there
went there for awful little bit no Tyrone. It was kind of comical a little bit because Tyrone was like across the hall and I was ay man, yeah yeah, and then like important people came up and I'm like trying to do a podcast like through them. It was one of them kind of gotten the way I feel. Did that? Don't worry about it. Tactor justin like let la ask clowns doing did you answer that question. No, there was some. There were some really awesome individuals there. Um. You know,
the people from MCBAP were there. Which is the forum. I'm gonna murder this. It's Michigan Board of Addiction Professionals. I don't know where the sea is, but no, that's what it is. UM and they were there represented. And then um there was people there from Catholic Human Services. There was people there from UM Sunrise. There are people there from Bear River. There are people there from some recovery housing. Um. Uh, let's see our CEO was there or I mean our c A Recovery Community CRI.
Sorry, recovery A line. Sorry. I knew I had the letters there. I was picturing in my brain. Um yeah, um no, there was a lot of people there. There was so it was it was really interesting. They had some workshops that we could scept that you were separated out you could choose one or the other UM, which were super informational and UM yeah, I really enjoyed it. Yeah, and shout out to Great Lakes Recovery. They were there too, and they had me host a panel discussion.
I guess yeah, we were. Yeah, you were kind of the facilitator of it. I was horrible. I kept stuttering. I was like and my mouth was dry. And they gave me this little last microphone, like it was like ten swizzlers long, but half the size, half of the diameter, and like I was trying to like put my little mouth over
there, like hold talking to you. Like it was pretty dumb. I mean, I'm not saying that they should get new microphones, but they probably should because they had one like wireless you could pass, but I had to pass that to the panel, so left me with the stute microphone. I couldn't even hear if. I was making my voice into it, and it went wonderfully. I thought, oh, I thought it was horrible. One day, it came home and she was like, you're funny at the end.
I was like, okay, all right, you're whatever, man, Like I didn't know how to take that because she thought you were funny. Yeah, well thanks, but I don't know how to take that because it was it like, oh my god, you are so funny. You like tripped like four times up there, you can oh jokes weren't landing? Oh you thought you were thinking too much into it? It went it went fine, Yeah, it was Yeah, it was an honor to do it though. It was and they I mean they asked you of all those people that
were there to step up and do that, that means a lot. Yeah, So I do appreciate them doing that. And it was actually Community Recovery Alliance who was like, hey, can you step in and do that? I was like, yeah, yeah, that's awesome. Yeah and then yeah, but it was good though, and Murray was there. Ye, there are people. Yeah, and we got some stuff. And of course we don't like to talk about what we have coming up until like we know what's
coming up. But there's some interesting things coming up for two seventeen Recovery and it's pretty exciting, you know, for being a recovery community organization like we are and trying to move things forward with helping people in the company. You know, it would be huge. So details coming soon on that, but we just can't really talk about it too much for them. I'm a governor. I'm not talking about that. As soon as we as soon as we get the go ahead to talk about new things, we will be We'll fill
you in promise. Yeah. My man up in Charlotte, boy, he's running for president. Chow is what we call him Derek Chowden. He's on the podcast I think our first season, the first year. We don't have seasons, we have years. But he's running straight up for president. I was like, damn, bro, Like that's pretty pretty balsy, but I can't win if you don't run. Yeah, I don't know if they'd ever
tell you about him or any of his story. No, it was crazy, man, Like he like, think about like the worst thing you could do to your family and then times that time by like ten, and that's what he did. And yeah, and you know, I'm not I mean, we talk he was on a podcast. We talked about it. I'm not knocking him. I like the guy. And to see him bounce back as z a miracle because a lot of people would not. They would have just they would have not. But he told his family, like he was
so bad in his addiction. He told his family he had cancer, he
was dying. Like he played that for a while. And I know he was telling me that his daughter didn't talk to him for a long time, and like just everybody just was like f you you know, and understandably, you know, and he gets it, you know, He's like I get it, man, so from someone who can make I would say, almost the ultimate mistake, you know, and the ultimate lie, and you know, bounce back and clean himself up. And look, he accepts what he
did, you know, and he knows that he was in his active addiction, but he doesn't pass that off as an excuse. You know. He says that that's just horrible. That was miserable. And you know, so whatever you are in your recovery to think that, you're like, man, I can never come back from that. You know. I called her a bitch or I called him an asshole or whatever. You know, Yeah, it can. You can get some stuff back, and will you get everything
back? I don't know, But you can't beat yourself up over that because that would be one like I said, like, I don't think any a lot of people come back from that, because that would be a ass kicking every single day. Yes, and to you know, even ask for forgiveness
on something like that, it's just nuts. But anyway, Yeah, if he's run for president, you know, I'm just saying those are big dreams, but maybe we start a governor, you know, That's what I'm saying because I think that if I would have ran against Whitman, I could have won, just saying, for real, don't look at me like that. You get these big eyes that turns sexy or something. What are you doing. No, I'm just saying, with giving the right campaign, I could
have won. And look, I'm not gonna stoop to her level. I'm not gonna do it. I'm gonna run my clean campaign. I'm gonna give thee what they want. And that's a good governor, a good man, good honest, hard working man. Yeah, in my first video, I'm gonna have I already playing this out, honey, listen, because this still might happen. I'm gonna have um, somebody who looks like Whitmer like up. What I'm just saying, like when you're playing dirty and no, I'm
gonna go up and I'm gonna congratulate because she's gonna be gone. I might running against her. That's the whole thing, is the whole politician. That's because everybody here. If your game plan is to just bash everybody else, that I already shame on you. Okay, you ready, Yeah, all right, it's last time I beg you to let me finish. By the
way, he just kidding. So anyway, so has somebody looks like Whitmer and then me walking up to her, you know, we're outside ice cream parlor, and I shake her hand and I say good job, thinks, and then she passes the baton and I take it it. Meanwhile, in the background, there's some guy stealing an ice cream cone from some kids and I stop him. I say, don't do that. There you go, that's it. Oh okay, well I hadn't modify it quite a bit.
She started represend to me about what I was really gonna do. But yeah, that's what I was gonna do. Yeah, no, bag. Now what I really wanted to do, though, is like Corey Winfield, you have somebody thing is honey? You say too much to be a politician. I know, if people love it. I'm like Donald Trump. You cross too many lines, I know, but it's gonna be fun just saying him I love you, but just saying, okay, so Corey Winfield, he
doesn't take ice cream from kids. And then like, have this kid trying to get me an ice cream and let me smack it out of his hand. Doesn't take ice cream from kids, Corey Winfield, govern you want Michigan, you want him in Lancing and had me just like hanging out with them all and Lancing like, what's up? I don't know, I have nothing to say, Like Burgers, I got nothing. My other campaign was gonna be like F Michigan and then but I have a whole thing about that.
Okay, Yeah, that's what I felt like people are doing. If you're from Michigan, F Michigan. That that's why feel like some of the politicians are doing to us. So anyway, I know, I know, I'm just spitballing here. Whatever happened to that whole positivity thing that you had going on for a while when everyone was like Corey is so positive? This is like not it at all. I was just spitballing here. You know, I'm being governor anyway, Chow, if you need a running mate, bros,
run the other way now look me up. Man like yeah, look me up. Well you already have my contact. So it just texted me as something that because I'll go back with you can't one if you don't run. That's true. That is one piece that is true. So what we might have a grand opening, Well, we will let you know when our
grand opening is going to be. For the two seventeen Recovery Center. We've not secured a date yet, but everyone's going to be invited and it's just gonna be kind of a h I guess, informal, but we will have some sort of kind of like ceremonial. I don't want to say ribbon cutting because we might not have a ribbon that's cut. But I'm buy a ribbon, I know, but I'm just saying it doesn't It could be a theoretical
ribbon, you know. More so just like we should cut an invisible ribbon with invisible scissors, like a film thattt no beeople out of my campaign too, the imaginative imagine imagine it. He imagines the impossible. So but no, it's we're for like mid or I mean early early June, early June
sometimes, so we'll keep you updated on that. Yeah, I should have a ghost a ghost cut it. How the ghosts come thing invisible ribbon with the invisible scissors and then he can't stay after it because he's got to catch a spaceship out of the town. We're talking about. Ghosts are alien? Wow, come check it out. Openings like over over the Top, its way over the Top. I was gonna invite Trumps, but we're having a no grab him by the pea zone. This is what he's all right,
we're done, we're done. Jokes are over. I geez, oh geez, you just have a little fun. I'm really tired. Yeah that's delirium talking. All right. Well, anyway, thanks for listening, and yeah, sorry we haven't been checking in as much about well do our to do that? And yeah, we appreciate you listening and we cut loose and have fun sometimes. We do appreciate the fact that if you understand that and you get it and you can have a chuckle too. So yeah, thanks everybody,
have a great night. Thanks for listening. To the two seventeen Recovery podcasts for more episodes plus bonus features. Don't know the two seventeen Recovery app
