Episode description

t's hard being an artist. Musicians have to tour in beat up old vans and play shows at Denny's just to break even. But upon Spotify's launch, it seemed musicians had a real opportunity to take advantage of the internet and streaming to finally make a living. Until Spotify decided they'd just hire their own musicians to make music on their behalf and take 100% of the revenue which is definitely not embezzling. Other "artists" have come up with their own ingenius ways to exploit the streaming platform by cutting albums up into 30 second tracks and campaigning to have their songs added to curated playlists. All in all, none of this is good for the future of music and is another case of "Oops! All Capitalism!".
