A New View of the Beatitudes

"When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying, 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth ...'" (Matthew 5:1-5) At the beginning of His famous Sermon on the Mount, our Lord Jesus Christ made nine statements, all beginning with the word "blessed." Many Bible teachers refer to them as wise sayings. In this 20-Minute Bible Study, we go deeper and look at how they are related and sequential – a ladder of maturing faith.
