Welcome back to the first and ten podcast. Today, we have breaking news that quarterback Brock Purtty has undergone surgery on his right elbow. Lindsay, what have we heard from the doctors on the surgery, Heybrey. Yeah, it's a pretty short and sweet release from the team. But forty nine Ers quarterback Brock pretty was able to have the repair procedure on his right elbow that was delayed earlier in
the off season. Doctor Keith Meister was the surgeon performing the repair surgery, and from what we know, they were able to go the route of the internal brace repair for his elbow and he is anticipated to be able to start a progressive throwing program in about three months. This was kind of the ideal best case scenario that both Brock Purty and the team were hoping to have, rather than the full Tommy John surgery and a few other alternate procedures that were on the table in terms
of repair for his right elbow. I'm so glad to hear that the surgery was a success. Since Brock suffered the injury in the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the timeline was moved around a bit. He was originally scheduled to have the surgery a few weeks ago. Can you explain why it was moved back. Yeah, we actually got the official update of the surgery delay at the
Combine during General Manager John Lynch's press availability. Essentially, when doctor Keith Meister went in to look at the final evaluation before moving forward or not moving forward, there was some swelling and inflammation in Brock's arm that he really wanted to let go down and kind of let it
be an ideal situation for surgery. From what John Lynch meant, shinned doctor Keith Meister, this is his area of expertise, and I did hear him say that he has had the most successful cases when the swelling and inflammation in the arm is more minimal. So I think that's what they were waiting for. And we are very happy to hear that the surgery was successful and now Brock Purty can finally move on to what he's been hoping for.
Was just finally entering the healing and rehab process. And you know that three month throwing program timeline is very encouraging. And then you know, we'll probably get a later update to hear what the full recovery timeline will be great news that the doctors did not find any further unexpected damage to his elbow, a scenario in that case could have pushed the recovery timeline a bit further. Also, like he said, no Tommy John surgery was needed. It was
only a UCL repair. They placed an internal brace in the surgery. With that being said, how does his recovery and the goal for in three months to start throwing program line up with the start of the twenty twenty three regular season. Yeah, so the three month throwing program will put him at starting to actually get to throw around the ball in early June. That's kind of I believe.
The tail end of OTAs and then the total timeline as projected, and again so many things can change, is six months to full recovery, and that would pretty much line up with the start of the twenty twenty three regular season. We'll see once he gets into that throwing program what exactly he can or cannot participate in in terms of training camp. I think it's very much going to see how it goes and see how he progresses
type thing. But right now, the full recovery projected timeline six months and then three months for the start of that throwing program. All good news. I know that again, this was kind of the ideal, best case scenario for the San Francis before forty nine ers and for brock Berty. We'll keep you updated on all of the latest information on forty nine ers dot com. Thank you Lindsay for
