Episode description

In this episode of 1050 Bascom, we were excited to collaborate with the La Follette School of Public Affairs to interview David Weimer, Professor of Political Economy at the La Follette School of Public Affairs and the Department of Political Science here at UW-Madison. Prof. Weimer’s research focuses broadly on policy making and institutional design. Although most of his recent research has addressed issues in health policy, he has studied the areas of energy security, natural resource policy, education, and criminal justice. We asked him about some of these areas of his teaching and research, as well as his recent award-winning article, “Monetizing Bowser: A Contingent Valuation of the Statistical Value of Dog Life”. We learned a lot from Prof. Weimer, and hope you will too.
