Episode description

Feeling scared and hopeless is a normal part of the human experience. We are all going to have moments when our inadequacies and our deficiencies are going to feel overwhelming in comparison with what is required of us and our brains are going to tell us that we don’t have what it takes, that we can’t possibly do it, and we should just give up.

But the real problem isn’t our inadequacies. The real problem is our expectations.

We all have expectations (which are really just made-up thoughts) about what we should be capable of, what we should already be good at, or what we should have already accomplished. And when we look at our inadequacies from the perspective of these arbitrary expectations, we get really scared about failing and we feel hopeless about ever being good enough.

Today’s podcast is a love letter to all of you who are feeling scared and hopeless, mostly because of your own expectations. I’m going to give you some new ways to think about your expectations, your failures, your feelings, and your human experience, so that you can feel better and know that, no matter what happens, you are always okay.
