[SPEAKER_01]: Good morning, good afternoon and good evening. [SPEAKER_01]: You're listening to Cluck. [SPEAKER_01]: The podcast where Ted Cluck and Josh Loftis talk about the things that make them happy because we can. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it. [SPEAKER_01]: Ted, my man, it is good to see you. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a spur the moment. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a run prompt to a recording session because we're both busy men. [SPEAKER_01]: We have busy schedules.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're just getting pulled to and fro, man. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone wants our attention. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone wants our space. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: This is our space. [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be a little a little jealous of our space. [SPEAKER_00]: Our special space, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate your message. [SPEAKER_00]: It's good to see you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we should rename the podcast, our special space. [SPEAKER_00]: It would be a very different podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: And our voices would have to sound very differently. [SPEAKER_00]: It's true. [SPEAKER_00]: It's true. [SPEAKER_01]: Both you and I have proven that we can pull those voices off out of the hat when we need to. [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be a very vulnerable podcast. [SPEAKER_01]: Very so much. [SPEAKER_01]: Speaking about very un vulnerable things.
[SPEAKER_01]: Man Ted. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you my man. [SPEAKER_01]: I first off I got to hand it to you because [SPEAKER_01]: You are an inspiration, not only to me, but I'm sure millions of men out there. [SPEAKER_01]: And that you, my dude, do not quit. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't quit. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't. [SPEAKER_01]: And it is, that is a trait that I'm going to sound like a vicious old man right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a trait that young folks these days need to learn a lot more than they have. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, not across the board, not blanket. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I'm not going full gen X, boomer on this and you know, blanket statement. [SPEAKER_01]: But dude, like you are, you know, out there grinding on the football field. [SPEAKER_01]: Just knocking heads, taking names, and you came away with a little momento. [SPEAKER_01]: A little way to remember the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Walk us through what happened, Ted. [SPEAKER_00]: I got a little souvenir here from the little rock Arkansas health care system. [SPEAKER_00]: So broke my hand. [SPEAKER_00]: So I played in a semi-profile ball game on Saturday as a member of the Mississippi dogs. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was ridiculous to us because we were wearing Jacksonville Jaguars inspired uniforms. [SPEAKER_00]: So there was no that which is peak semi-profile, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: usually a disorganized mess, this game was no different, it was completely organized. [SPEAKER_00]: I was promised there would be lots of guys there and I wouldn't have to play much, but I got there, I ended up on the kickoff return team, I ended up starting a right guard. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, uh, little, this little bad boy for my efforts. [SPEAKER_00]: So I broke my Metacarpal in my right hand and uh, had an absolute blast Joshua loftist.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I, you know, you'll get a kick out of this. [SPEAKER_00]: So I was wearing, um, [SPEAKER_00]: The jersey they gave me was number seventy-one, which is Tony Bicelli's number Jacksonville Aguar Legend. [SPEAKER_00]: So I felt pretty cool wearing Bicelli's number for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: But had somebody else's name on the back? [SPEAKER_00]: It had the name. [SPEAKER_00]: It had the name Martin on the back.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Martin, if you're out there, if you're listening, thanks for letting me use your jersey. [SPEAKER_00]: It was good. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Pretty sure it wasn't Ronnie Martin's jersey. [SPEAKER_01]: I was gonna say, were you trying to channel Ronnie Martin? [SPEAKER_01]: Cause maybe that's why you [SPEAKER_00]: That could have been, yeah, if I was channeling Ronnie, I would have been like a French bakery and not there at all. [SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, it was great fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: And to your point about not quitting, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think it's more, it's less nobility than that. [SPEAKER_00]: It really isn't noble. [SPEAKER_00]: It's more just like, I keep doing what I like to do. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I think. [SPEAKER_00]: In a lot of cases, you know, call it practicality, call it wisdom. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe like I think a lot of people just kind of by nature of adulthood stop doing what they like to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe I'm an outlier and that I just have never stopped doing what I like to do. [SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes it gets me injured, sometimes it doesn't. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'll tell you, man, at the risk of over spiritualizing this whole thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm in this headspace because I'm collabing on a book on the theology of sports with my, my good friend and former professor Jim Spiegel.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're thinking about this stuff and we're working on it, but every time I go out to play now, [SPEAKER_00]: I always pray and pray and pray. [SPEAKER_00]: Just Lord give me the exact experience that you want me to have. [SPEAKER_00]: Give me the right number of plays, the right plays to be out there. [SPEAKER_00]: And I know that this is from the Lord. [SPEAKER_00]: This is what the Lord wanted for me in that moment. [SPEAKER_00]: And you could have been so much worse, Josh.
[SPEAKER_00]: I could have torn in Achilles. [SPEAKER_00]: I could have liked. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure. [SPEAKER_00]: separated a shoulder. [SPEAKER_00]: I could have done so many other things that would have been more debilitating and frustrating than this. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm thankful for the broken hand, thankful for the plays that I got to play. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I played well, acquitted myself well. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, we'll live to fight another day.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a it was a fun time at the football field, man. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: I've got a couple questions regarding this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: The first one is this. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember the play when it happened? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And if so, what happened? [SPEAKER_00]: I think it was my second pass set and it's funny man.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I feel like whenever I play semi-pro, there's always like three slappies and one like legitimate dog on the defensive line across me and I always end up blocking the dog. [SPEAKER_00]: So people like, I'm like, man, I'm forty nine years old. [SPEAKER_00]: Can I not get one of the slappies this time? [SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, [SPEAKER_00]: Can I not get an easy day? [SPEAKER_00]: But I had a dog in front of me, man. [SPEAKER_00]: He was young and big.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was probably about my size, so about two, fifty, two, sixty. [SPEAKER_00]: Really got off the ball quick. [SPEAKER_00]: He was a good player, but he was, um, he would always rush to my inside. [SPEAKER_00]: So the center guard got the A gap. [SPEAKER_00]: He was always shooting the A gap. [SPEAKER_00]: So I was stepping to the A gap to cut him off, but on this particular set. [SPEAKER_00]: So I set him inside and I went to punch.
[SPEAKER_00]: but he looped around the outside of me so I kind of like punched out that way. [SPEAKER_00]: And he just caught this side of my hand and bent it all the way backward. [SPEAKER_00]: I knew it was broken as soon as it happens. [SPEAKER_00]: Just one of those things where wrong place, wrong time, wrong hand position, and I paid for it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, taking as a badge of honor that they have you garden the hardest guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in the paraphrase words of Celtic legend, Larry Bird, he would get offended when they had a white guy guarding him. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure, man. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's, there were very few white guys out there just to be, to be fair to work. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know that it was intentional.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like this, this team, this semi-pro thing is so disorganized like [SPEAKER_00]: Nobody knew who I was, but they were just like, hey, we need a bright card, and I'm like, all right, I'm there. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, I don't think it was even that thought through, but it always, you know, like I said before, it was what the Lord wanted for me, and it was fun, and it was a good challenge, and I enjoyed it every second. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Last question. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll move on hard hitting question. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Has the broken hand had any or created any discussions within the club household as to the future of your football playing or or has this created any thoughts in you personally as to the future of playing well. [SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting, man. [SPEAKER_00]: There have been and I was I was telling a friend this the other day.
[SPEAKER_00]: There have been moments and experiences that I've had and semi-programmed or like buster bowls or whatever where. [SPEAKER_00]: Even where I haven't gotten hurt, but where I've just walked off the field and been like, alright, that's enough, I'm done. [SPEAKER_00]: But I didn't feel that way after this one, I didn't feel cynical, I didn't feel like, alright, that's a wrap, that's it. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know what that means.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think it probably means as soon as my hand feels good, I'll probably start playing again. [SPEAKER_00]: And my life is so good-natured about it, man. [SPEAKER_00]: I've got to tip the cap at any point in this experience over this weekend. [SPEAKER_00]: She could have said, I told you so. [SPEAKER_00]: And she would have been right in doing that, right? [SPEAKER_00]: But she's really good-natured about it. [SPEAKER_00]: She's made her piece with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Football has [SPEAKER_00]: opened up a lot of really cool and unique doors for us as a couple. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we got to live in France because of it. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got to do all kinds of neat things and even this weekend. [SPEAKER_00]: So I kind of combined the games in Little Rock and I combined it with a research trip. [SPEAKER_00]: kind of a location scout for a movie idea that I'm cooking up that would be set in hot springs Arkansas.
[SPEAKER_00]: So friends came with us. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, my wife got to enjoy a day of shopping in hot springs while I was like breaking my hand on a in a junior high football stadium. [SPEAKER_00]: Little right and you know, so it's it's the lines of falling in pleasant places for her even as it pertains to football. [SPEAKER_00]: So she's he's been great about it. [SPEAKER_00]: She's just been a champ. [SPEAKER_01]: That's good. [SPEAKER_01]: Have you found practical life has changed?
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously workouts are going to have to change a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Not going to be putting the boxing gloves on for. [SPEAKER_00]: No, the boxing gloves are going to be in storage for a while. [SPEAKER_00]: I've actually lifted twice since it happened. [SPEAKER_00]: So the way this brace works, it gives me pretty good support. [SPEAKER_00]: So I can do modified versions of all of my lifts, just like with machines and different, you know, less free weight more machine now.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I was really thankful for that really happy to get in lift the hardest thing to do in fact up until today has been typing Which is tough because I'm a writer man and I always have things that I need to write and want to write so I had a column do the Monday after the game So I had to come in here and gut it out on Monday and like type with nine fingers instead of ten but
[SPEAKER_01]: today I came in with some things that I wanted to write and I was able to write all of them so I'm super grateful for that the hand is it's sore and it's purple and gnarly looking but it's feeling better that's awesome that's awesome and you have got some really cool I like I'm obviously not going to spill beans because I don't know what you can or cannot talk about but you have made me privy about some really cool writing and interview projects that you have coming up
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, man. [SPEAKER_01]: Can you can you tease any of those or are we still in the in the area where they can't they can't talk to all of them man. [SPEAKER_00]: I can tease all of them so [SPEAKER_01]: There's one in particular. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm super excited. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I told you about the book proposal on the theology of sports. [SPEAKER_00]: So Jim and I are working on that now. [SPEAKER_00]: That'll be good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Next week, I'm heading to Birmingham to interview former heavyweight champion, Deonté Wilder. [SPEAKER_00]: So fired up about meeting Wilder. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a unique individual, interesting dude. [SPEAKER_00]: It should be a wild interview. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's going to be for ring magazine again.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the ring [SPEAKER_00]: connection has been great man they've been awesome to work with and they keep giving me work so you can pray that I'm up to the task and worthy of the work and you know I'm looking forward to that one and then you know kicking the tires on this movie thing and hot springs so hot springs without getting too old mannish and into the history weeds here
[SPEAKER_00]: There was a time in that city's history where the mafia prohibition and professional baseball all kind of coalesced in hot springs and so yet mob figures pro baseball figures everybody in that town and come to find out [SPEAKER_00]: My ancestors were probably involved in all of those things, the baseball side and the mob side. [SPEAKER_00]: So, wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm going to take some creative liberties and write a story that involves my grandpa pitching to Babe Ruth and his mobster brother, you know, kind of rum running for Capone and you were the whole thing goes. [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, if you need an extra that can do some crazy accents for you, give me a call. [SPEAKER_00]: Dude, you would you would love that town. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's a great food town. [SPEAKER_00]: There's some elite food and hot springs.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's what's interesting about it. [SPEAKER_00]: So like geographically, the literal hot spring bubbles up like right on Main Street. [SPEAKER_00]: And so they have this thing called bathhouse row, which is all these beautiful marble art deco. [SPEAKER_00]: buildings where they had the various bathhouses where you could go and like take soaks, take steam baths, get massages, the water was supposed to have like regenerative healing qualities.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how true that is, but it was certainly the marketing of the time. [SPEAKER_00]: And so all these like, you know, twenty, thirty zero marble buildings are still intact. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a there's a bank building in town where there's now like an elite restaurant called the vault where we ate. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a speakeasy upstairs called the heist, which is beautiful.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the kind of centerpiece of town is this huge old hotel called the Arlington, which is where Capone stayed. [SPEAKER_00]: He had a, like, an all time suite at the Arlington. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's still there and it still looks beautiful and it still looks like it looked back in the day. [SPEAKER_00]: So look, otherwise there's lots of tantalizing options for [SPEAKER_00]: of film shoot and we're just kind of exploring.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I've made friends with the guy who owns the gangster museum of America in hot springs and that being an actual thing is nuts. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's an actual thing and it's wild and the guy is a character in the best possible ways. [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, we may be collabing on something creative and I'll keep you posted as anything pops. [SPEAKER_00]: That's so cool. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a cool stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's fun to like [SPEAKER_00]: And I'll tell you what I'm super thankful for, man. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm thankful for my academic job because the summers just allow for all this creativity. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean when I'm not creating papers and not going to be meetings and not teaching classes like I can be super creative and I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so fun. [SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome. [SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that dude. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have to find you on Ring Magazine. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how like I'm assuming they have a website like I want to read some of your articles so they do yeah the the piece that I did
[SPEAKER_00]: was I think in the July issue the one where I sparred with the the former heavyweight champ that one's in the July issue of ring and you can download it as a PDF review it as a PDF nice okay yeah and you can find it on new stands maybe somewhere out there in Seattle but it's probably just easiest to look at the PDF okay awesome I love that sure [SPEAKER_01]: All right, Ted.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, like we said, we got kind of a kind of a quick app today, but before we get out of here, I have a fun kind of ranking popular movie heroes. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: All right, that I was sent to via Instagram by listener Joshua. [SPEAKER_01]: I believe you pronounced the last name. [SPEAKER_01]: Glimph, I'm not quite sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna do my best, but he sent a really cool bracket [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to send it to you right now and we have to we have to work through these and get to the point to where we can come to a consensus on what you and I believe or who excuse me you and I believe is the best action movie hero what I love about this [SPEAKER_01]: is that it and it actually says under the title, no superpowers. [SPEAKER_01]: We're not getting into comics.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not getting into superheroes. [SPEAKER_01]: This is like real life action heroes. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's love this. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm so in. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm already in. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So this is what we're going to do. [SPEAKER_01]: I need to find a way to remember our choices. [SPEAKER_01]: I need to get me up. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a pen. [SPEAKER_01]: That's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's I'll [SPEAKER_01]: We'll do our best. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll do our best. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll do our best. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll do our best. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll do our best. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll do our best. [SPEAKER_01]: The number one seed and the number sixteen seed hit and off, right? [SPEAKER_01]: As it often is, I found myself in this scenario at many a wrestling tournament. [SPEAKER_01]: We have Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible Classic Tom Cruise, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: With Harry Stamper from Armageddon. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: To me, this is a pretty obvious one, but I want to hear, I want to hear if there's any any any discussion on this. [SPEAKER_00]: There is discussion. [SPEAKER_00]: First of all, Armageddon is an underrated, awesomely crappy movie. [SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't seen it, aerosmith soundtrack, amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: It dropped in the late nineties.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Aerosmith got a banger out of it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the banger that I sing in karaoke when I'm in a certain kind of mood. [SPEAKER_00]: I have trouble hitting the high notes. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a great like asteroid movie. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's a great Ben Affleck moment, a great [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna sit John McClain Bruce Willis moment. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Bruce Willis.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a fun movie and honestly if you put a gun in my head and said you can either watch Armageddon or Mission Impossible I'd probably choose Armageddon. [SPEAKER_01]: Sure, but this is not greatest action movie [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: Greatest action hero, right? [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Ethan Hunt gets it, but it's closer. [SPEAKER_00]: It's cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: This is like it can to, um, I don't know, like, a Duke versus slippery rock in the first round of the NCAA tournament, like, Duke wins by a, like, a bucket. [SPEAKER_00]: So Ethan Hunt gets down when it's close to the people think. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're just going to work our way down. [SPEAKER_01]: It'll be easier for me to remember.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to work our way down the left panel and then go to the right and then that way we know we know who's fighting each other. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So Ethan Hunt seed number one takes it. [SPEAKER_01]: Next we've got seed number eight and nine. [SPEAKER_01]: So Vester Stallone's Rambo.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely love Rambo have you ever do have you seen the the the I guess would be the last Rambo last blood or something like that I haven't no I haven't I need to great yeah, that's what I heard I heard nothing but good about really great against Arnold Schwarzenegger the Terminator specifically Terminator two Yeah, I'm hero in that one [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going with Rambo. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going with John Rambo.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: For a couple of reasons, I think he's a better character. [SPEAKER_00]: He's more human, former Vietnam vet, still getting around in the jungle, having adventures.
[SPEAKER_00]: When I was a little kid, the fair, the forage fair would come to town every summer and we would all go and buy like Rambo survival knives with some [SPEAKER_00]: They had the like the fishing line and a couple of matches and different things in the in the handle and we loved our Rambo knife so I'm I'm going Rambo now [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right. [SPEAKER_01]: So now to send them to the, uh, uh, I would say it'd be the, the semi finals.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got Ethan Hunt versus John Rambo. [SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be a tough one dude. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be really tough. [SPEAKER_01]: Ethan Hunt has the, the, I would say the advantage of having way more movies. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We're on like mission impossible like eight at this point. [SPEAKER_01]: I think. [SPEAKER_01]: No sign of stopping. [SPEAKER_01]: But Rambo, Rambo has that eight pack that's really hard to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's to over. [SPEAKER_01]: And the knife dude. [SPEAKER_01]: The knife. [SPEAKER_01]: The knife. [SPEAKER_01]: The headband. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the headband. [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, the headband. [SPEAKER_00]: The headband. [SPEAKER_01]: Can I also say this? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a sucker for like old Sevester Sloan versus old Tom Cruise. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, me, too old. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's just loaned way cooler. [SPEAKER_00]: Stallone got coolers.
[SPEAKER_00]: He got older. [SPEAKER_00]: Chris just got more involved looking and yeah, you know, waxing. [SPEAKER_01]: So we going Rambo. [SPEAKER_01]: I've got Rambo in that one. [SPEAKER_01]: I've got Rambo to Rambo wins the first bracket man. [SPEAKER_00]: Because Ethan Hunts got all the tech. [SPEAKER_00]: He's got like a team. [SPEAKER_00]: Rambo's doing it by himself. [SPEAKER_00]: He's alone.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if it's Mono, Mono give me John Rambo, you know, hundred percent running percent. [SPEAKER_01]: We got Rambo going to the semi finals. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going down to the next bracket. [SPEAKER_01]: Seed number four versus seed. [SPEAKER_01]: Thirteen. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got James Bond. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, specifically Daniel Craig's James Bond. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Versus Rick O'Connor from The Mummy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's James Bond. [SPEAKER_00]: That's easy. [SPEAKER_00]: We can go crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: Easy. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you on that one. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's where it's going to start getting dicey. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Because we're going to start getting characters that that I know are near and dear to your heart. [SPEAKER_01]: That's right. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think this one's going to be as hard, but this one's hard.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to get harder. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: We got John McLean from Diehard versus the bride from Kill Bill. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, John McLean. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going McLean on that one. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's McLean. [SPEAKER_00]: It's his dirty wife feeder. [SPEAKER_00]: It's his resourcefulness. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's his like he's just a work of day cop. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm hoping it saves.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Come out to the coast have some lives. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So that means that to get to the semifinals, we've got John McLean versus James Bond. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, kind of similar pathology here in the bond is slick, he's got all the tech, he's got all the toys, McClain dude, given the standard issue sidearm, given some things that he finds around the building, he's going to find a way to kill you dude.
[SPEAKER_00]: You got to kill him to stop him and I don't know that Bond has the grit that McLean has. [SPEAKER_00]: McLean has been through some things, dude. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he saved the world twice in the first two movies. [SPEAKER_00]: He's done some incredible things on screen. [SPEAKER_00]: So I've got McLean in a close one over James Bond. [SPEAKER_00]: McLean is more human. [SPEAKER_00]: He's more relatable. [SPEAKER_00]: He's the better character.
[SPEAKER_00]: I always get bored in the James Bond movies, dude. [SPEAKER_00]: Always. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm always checking my phone by like minute twenty five and McLean. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm riveted. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm watching all the way through when he's actually. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I think I think this is where we're going to see kind of the generational thing come back to play. [SPEAKER_01]: And for me, like I've got Bond on this one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Just because I had more familiar with Bond. [SPEAKER_01]: I've had more experience with Bond. [SPEAKER_01]: John McLean. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, no shade to him, but the familiarity just isn't there, but you have the broken hand. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're giving it to you. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: So, but at this point, and this one I am standing my grant, we might fight on this one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: At that point now, going to the finals. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: We have Rambo versus John McLean. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, I mean, like if we're talking action hero. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Rambo wipes the floor with John McLean. [SPEAKER_00]: First of all, this is a fight that I would pay so much money to see. [SPEAKER_01]: This would be amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: Dude, a knockdown dragout.
[SPEAKER_00]: Remember that fight in die hard where McLean kills the guy that's along here. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the car. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, and dude, the trash talk that McLean lays on him during that fight. [SPEAKER_00]: It's good trash talk. [SPEAKER_00]: It's some of my favorite movie trash talk. [SPEAKER_00]: KK quoted it last night. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to kill you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to bleep and cook you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to bleep and eat you.
[SPEAKER_00]: You should hurt your brother squeal when I broke his neck. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, like it's incredible dude. [SPEAKER_00]: It's good stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: I've got McClain, but I'm gonna give you this one because I think my heart wants McClain, but my, my head, my brain, I know that it would be Rambo. [SPEAKER_01]: I would just, I would just say this, like McClain, again, no shade to him. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But you put Rambo in Nakatomi Tower, he's gonna do fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's probably gonna, he put McClain in the jungle. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not happening. [SPEAKER_00]: Rambo probably gets knocked at home. [SPEAKER_00]: He solved about two hours sooner, too. [SPEAKER_00]: Probably. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's in better sleep. [SPEAKER_00]: He's got me a pack. [SPEAKER_00]: McLean. [SPEAKER_00]: Dude, McLean's dealing with hangovers every morning. [SPEAKER_00]: He's rippin' over six throughout the day. [SPEAKER_00]: He is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Rambo's the better specimen. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll get that bracket to Rambo for sure. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: We got Rambo going to the finals. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_01]: Right side of the bracket. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see who Rambo's facing. [SPEAKER_01]: We are coming up. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, dude. [SPEAKER_01]: This off the rip. [SPEAKER_01]: This is horrible.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got our second seed versus fifteen seed. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a no-brainer, at least in my head. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got classic John Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Versus John Creasy for man on fire. [SPEAKER_01]: Denzel Washington, Versus Countner Reeves. [SPEAKER_00]: John John Wick John Wick might take this entire he might that's easy. [SPEAKER_00]: I've got John Wick in that one too. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a huge fan of the John Wick movies.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's incredible fighter have you seen the the the the new John Wick movie that's right now the ballerina or something like that the one with a girl. [SPEAKER_00]: I call it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah [SPEAKER_01]: I love that. [SPEAKER_00]: I have nothing John Chick. [SPEAKER_00]: I have it either. [SPEAKER_00]: And then I got busy. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't get a chance to see it. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'll see it when it comes to streaming.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard it's good. [SPEAKER_01]: I've heard it's good. [SPEAKER_00]: I've heard good things and I have no doubt that it will be good. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking forward to it. [SPEAKER_00]: But this one's easy. [SPEAKER_00]: It's John Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: John Wick agreed agreed okay, let's see who he's fighting another Denzel submission Robert McCall from the equalizer Great edition great movies such fun dude those movies are a blast.
[SPEAKER_00]: They really are I love his vibe. [SPEAKER_00]: I love his like yes calm demeanor his vibe like something's in the story. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, something sinister about a guy who's calm [SPEAKER_00]: He knows all the angles, right? [SPEAKER_00]: And look, I mean, Schwarzenegger's Dutch character from Prager is stronger. [SPEAKER_00]: He's bigger, but he's stiff. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not creative. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm, I'm going McCall and this one for the creativity factor.
[SPEAKER_00]: He will find a way, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Great. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever's in the room, he's going to find a way. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, hundred percent, hundred percent, but that gives us the very difficult choice now of Denzel Washington's John McCall versus John Wick. [SPEAKER_00]: All respect in the world to Robert McCall from the equalizer. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going John Wick here. [SPEAKER_00]: Same. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Same.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even have to think about it. [SPEAKER_01]: We are agreed. [SPEAKER_01]: We are ending that. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, John Wick, go into the semi-finals. [SPEAKER_01]: Down to our final bracket here, we've got our seed number three, Indiana Jones versus seed fourteen, inspector Lee from brush hour. [SPEAKER_00]: You see, it's Indiana Jones, like myself. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a professor, like myself. [SPEAKER_00]: He has a little stubble on the beard.
[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, I wanted to be Indiana Jones so bad when I was a little kid. [SPEAKER_00]: That first movie came out in nineteen eighty two. [SPEAKER_00]: I was six years old. [SPEAKER_00]: It's magical for me. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's a great character. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, very resourceful. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not the biggest. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not the most jacked. [SPEAKER_00]: But he's smart, dude, and he's playing chess. [SPEAKER_00]: He's beating you with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's beating you with this mind. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's motivated, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a there's a fire inside of Indiana Jones that just makes him hard to deny right here. [SPEAKER_01]: Sure. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree with what Indiana Jones. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see who he's facing. [SPEAKER_01]: Seed number six Jason born. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah versus seed eleven Brian Mills Liam Neeson's character from Taken.
[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, I'll respect in the world of brine mills. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll respect in the world of the takin movies. [SPEAKER_00]: They're really fun. [SPEAKER_00]: They are fun. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's there. [SPEAKER_00]: He's killing guys with like catering trays and there were there were too too many films. [SPEAKER_01]: But sure. [SPEAKER_01]: It's okay. [SPEAKER_01]: That's just my opinion. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll I'll tell you this.
[SPEAKER_00]: This might be unpopular, but I kind of [SPEAKER_00]: I low-key love that Liam Neeson makes these crappy action movies. [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's so fun to me that he's like, yeah, I'm this accomplished like maybe Daniel Day Lewis level actor, but I'm killing a guy with a catering tray. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but yeah, do the easy answer here's Jay some more. [SPEAKER_00]: Just such a landmark.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the firstborn movie to me, signaled the shift in like action movie paradigms, where you had a much more interesting, much more layered character. [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't just these jacks, steroidal hero types. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, really fun character, really great character for Damon. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, we know he's a really great fighter, and I think he takes that one pretty easily. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I love the Jason Borm films.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They are so much fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We just rewatched all of them just like last month. [SPEAKER_00]: Dude, there are blasts. [SPEAKER_00]: They feel a patient too. [SPEAKER_00]: Like the locations are so fun to be with. [SPEAKER_00]: The characters are great. [SPEAKER_00]: Those are great movies. [SPEAKER_00]: So to me, it's easy. [SPEAKER_00]: Jason Borm takes Indiana Jones. [SPEAKER_00]: As much as I love Indiana Jones, he's limited.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's spending X amount of hours every day in the classroom, teaching. [SPEAKER_00]: He's grading papers. [SPEAKER_00]: He's having the co-eds give him like apples and writing. [SPEAKER_01]: I love you on their eyelids and Jason Bourne is spending his off time taking down a secret government agency. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Jason Bourne is focused and in shape in a way that Indiana Jones isn't Indiana Jones too many committee meetings.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like he's writing too many white papers. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He's got to do the PTA. [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: So that brings us to Bourne for John Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is a legendary team up because I will say this like I'll say this from the start. [SPEAKER_01]: I think Jason Bourne was a prototype of John Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We have John Wick because like John Wick ran because Jason Bourne walked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Well said. [SPEAKER_01]: But but I'm still going John Wick. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I am too. [SPEAKER_00]: I think John Wick is just a, at his essence, he's a killer in a way that Jason born isn't. [SPEAKER_00]: Jason born is always a reluctant killer, right? [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want to kill. [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't, he doesn't really have peace with who he is.
[SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: We're John Wick has, [SPEAKER_00]: In a way, given himself over to it. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he knows exactly who he is. [SPEAKER_00]: He knows exactly what he's good at. [SPEAKER_00]: He'll stop at nothing to get a kill. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just think it's John Wick, dude. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's John Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: And the way I answer that is this, who would you rather face in a dark alley, right? [SPEAKER_01]: You just killed Jason Barnes, girlfriend.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or John Wick's dog. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, great point. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, John, we're scared of John Wick's dog dies and he kills like a hundred and seventy five dudes is a result. [SPEAKER_01]: And I have never related to a man more in my life. [SPEAKER_00]: He's killing them with like number two pencils. [SPEAKER_00]: Those like type of rogue pencils. [SPEAKER_00]: He's killing them with like books in the library.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: He's he's all purpose. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's nothing that guy can't do. [SPEAKER_00]: So I've got I've got Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: I've got wick as well, and now Ted, we come to the finals, which might be one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, and I'm honestly at this point, and even I'm not sure who I'm going with. [SPEAKER_01]: I have to think about it in here some arguments.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have Rambo versus John Wick, who's coming out with the dub. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's tough. [SPEAKER_00]: None of a certain kind are called to do hard things. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, sometimes we have to make hard, hard man podcasts. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, we have to do different things in our lives, Josh Loftus. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is one of those things. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'll do respect to Rambo, the Rambo family, if you're listening.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've got John Wick here. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's an epic battle. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's unbelievable. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't go against my guy, Jay Wick. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a little too crafty. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a little too resourceful. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he gets it done, but they're both bloody, right? [SPEAKER_00]: They're both beaten and broken men in the aftermath.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm taking John Wick. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: This is what I think happens. [SPEAKER_01]: man they're both so good okay this is what i think happens i think it is it is a absolute it is the most violent fight we've ever seen [SPEAKER_01]: It's a blood bag. [SPEAKER_01]: Rambo is throwing knives. [SPEAKER_01]: John Wick is throwing pencils in books. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They are both getting absolutely bludgeoned.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: At the very end, John Wick pulls out the victory by mere, by mere mere scratches, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Walks off. [SPEAKER_01]: But he is like wounded. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, probably fatally. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah walks off into the distance. [SPEAKER_01]: Movie ends. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't know if he dies or not. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love that. [SPEAKER_00]: That's good. [SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's where we're at because I got to give respect to Rambo. [SPEAKER_00]: You have to. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Rambo's going down without taking someone with him. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and if, if WIC can kill him, I think WIC will have, like, grown to respect Rambo so much in the, in the, in the, in the occurrence of the fight that he, he will not take the opportunity to kill him. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I love it.
[SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think he would find that a very good way to die. [SPEAKER_01]: I think he would grow so respectful of Rambo that he, that he would, he would, he would accept [SPEAKER_01]: death. [SPEAKER_01]: Of course, after he kills Rambo, but yeah, I think I think we see John Wick pulling this out, but I think he might he might die off screen. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I think. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Beautiful Ted. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that was super fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Ladies and gentlemen, Ted and I love doing this type of stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: If you have more of these, please send them.
