¶ Intro / Opening
What's up guys, welcome to the e-commerce paradise podcast. Today's episode is going to be about SEO optimization.
¶ E-Commerce Paradise Podcast Introduction
Alright, so let's get into it. SEO is a way to rank organically for free on Google's search engine and Bing search engine and other search engines. Organic rankings can get you free traffic and free sales, so they're definitely worth working for. And it's pretty easy to get ranked. It really depends on the keywords and the competition though.
But the way to get ranked is by filling your content with the proper keywords so that Google knows what that content is about and then once you've done that then just driving links to that page getting links from other websites to your website and then driving internal links from different pages on your website to that web page and so on and so forth so it's all just about you know keywords links and then next of course is just some technical SEO stuff that you should set up to make
sure that your website is optimized for what the search engine bots want to see. JSON-LD is really important, and you should get that going. Schema is also really important. So definitely don't sleep on SEO. I think it's one of the most vital ways for any business to grow. One of the best ways you can start with it is just by typing the keyword of any particular top-selling product into Google, and then you'll be able to figure out if that product has certain keywords in it or not.
You can use any keyword finder. Like, for instance, I use KWFinder. If you want to check that out and get a free trial, you can go to ecommerceparadise.com slash KWFinder.
¶ Tools for Keyword Research
KWFinder's great because you can plug in a keyword into there, see the search volume, see other sites that are already ranking for it, and then get an idea of what the other keywords are that are relevant to that. So you can fill your webpage with that. There's other tools as well that are great. One of them that we use is Koala and Koala Writer is a tool that can make it really easy to write blog posts and product descriptions. Another tool I use that's within Shopify is called SEO Ant.
It's a Shopify app that has a built-in AI tool and AI makes it really easy to write content that's keyword optimized. So what I usually do is I write keyword optimized titles that include the brand name, the model name, SKU number, the category and subcategory. And so it's a nicely filled out product title. Make sure that that's an H1 tag. And then down in the description, make sure that there's an H2 tag at the top that is including those same keywords, but in a different format.
And maybe including some additional keywords as well. And then below that, some content, paragraph content. And then each section below that is an H3 section. And each H3 section should talk about the different benefits and features of the product. So you talk feature, and then you talk benefit, feature, benefit, feature, benefit. And then you go into specifications. And in between each of these things, you want to be providing pictures of what you're talking about in each section.
And then Google will see that you not only are addressing the proper keywords in the heading tags, but you're also addressing it with content. You're providing multimedia images. In the images, you can make sure that the alt tags of the images are properly keyword optimized. Put the alt text there and put the file names as a keyword, file names. Within the SEO apps of Shopify, it'll do this for you automatically, which is really cool.
And another good thing about Shopify apps is that they help you with other stuff that you didn't think are related to SEO in the beginning, but then you realize are. One of the main things Google looks at for SEO is retention. So how long somebody stays on your website. So if somebody's going to wait a long time for your webpage to load, it's more likely that they're going to fall off and drop off and click the back button, go to a different website.
¶ Optimizing Website Speed
So making sure your website loads really fast is really important. And one of the main things that I do to do that is use an app called Crush Picks. And it will minimize the size of the images on your website and then that will make it so your webpage loads faster.
And there's also other technical stuff like moving the JavaScript down and doing other things like lazy loading that make your webpage load just a little bit at a time so the main elements load first and someone doesn't have to wait a while. Certain JavaScript from applications will take a while to load. For instance, I use Trusted Site, which is a great trust badge and you can check it out at ecommerceparadise.com get a free trial there.
Trusted site is really cool because it looks super trustworthy, and you can put it right there on your product page, but it just takes a little while to load. So the way the JavaScript is set up, it has to pull from their server. So just make sure that you optimize your website. What I do is I go on Fiverr, and I find a developer that's really good at speeding up websites, and then I pay them that money, and usually $20, $30 or something,
and then they'll speed up your website for you. So that's a really good idea to do that. But then definitely don't skimp on your site's meta title, meta description, and slug as well. Those should be optimized too. Definitely just use ChaiGPT for that kind of stuff. You can ask ChaiGPT, make me a really optimized title for my e-commerce store selling these products. And this is the particular product. Please make me a title and description within the amount of characters.
And then also for the slug, you just want to make it the same as the title usually of your product. And then there's a whole other thing with collections. Collections are your categories and whatnot that you hold your products within. You can put content there, optimize the meta title and the description as well. And so that's a great way to get going. You've got to really make sure that your website is fully optimized for SEO. Don't skimp on collections or product pages.
Make sure that your titles and descriptions and meta titles and meta descriptions are optimized. Make sure your technical SEO is done properly. Consult an expert on Fiverr if you want to get your site to load faster. Install these Shopify apps I've recommended. Definitely check out the SEO tools that use AI that I mentioned, like Koala Writer. It's going to really help you to write descriptions.
¶ Importance of Backlinks
And really optimize blog posts and things like that. They really work well, so definitely do that. As far as backlinks go, it's a whole other thing, a whole other game. So backlinks really just requires a lot of research and outreach, negotiation, and again, content creation and link insertion. Usually there's a payment involved. But the best white hat outreach is where you actually go to somebody and ask them if you can send them content for their website for free, and they just put it there.
Because then, obviously, you don't have to pay anything. But it's very few and far between. Most blogs will charge you money nowadays, just as an admin fee, because it does cost them time to publish content. Usually they have to pay a VA to do that for them. So anyway, most of the time you'll reach out to any particular blog in your niche, or just a general news site blog or something, and ask if they accept guest posts for a fee and how much it is.
And then they'll provide you the fee. And usually what I say is negotiate down. Whatever price they start at. Negotiate starting at half of that or less and then meet in the middle somewhere. Hopefully they're cool. And yeah, so hopefully get a lower price on those. Guest posts initially aren't going to bring you a ton of traffic because it's a new webpage on the web. But it is a good way to get backlinks easily from existing blogs. So you get new, fresh links from fresh sites.
If you want to get a link that's actually going to get use some traffic, the best way to do it is to research other websites that have created content related to the categories on your website. So I don't know, let's say you have a website selling saunas. You want to look up the keyword best saunas or best infrared saunas or best outdoor saunas or something like that, right?
And then definitely find those blogs that have already created those blog posts that have links to particular products on other websites. See if they're linking to e-commerce stores like yours, and then reach out to them and pitch them your affiliate program and also pitch them for a fee to link to your website in that blog article. And if they're ranking on the first page of Google, it's likely that they're already getting traffic to that blog post, quite a bit of traffic hopefully.
And then that traffic will then result in traffic to your website, to your particular product that matches that query, and then hopefully get some sales from there. So that's the best way to do it. It's just going to require some outreach research. Again, research, outreach, less content required this time. It's just a link you're asking for, but you are going to have to set up an affiliate program for that. There's a bunch of great apps for affiliate programs in Shopify.
Affiliately is one of them and it's pretty low cost. Then there's others. I'll try to. You know, figure out what the best one is. But Affiliately is, you know, pretty much all you need to get started with. So definitely go check that out.
¶ Using Affiliate Programs for Link Building
And there's other apps too. But regardless of that, an affiliate program will just help you to get more influencers to link to your stuff. So you can use an affiliate program to get like other YouTubers or bloggers or, you know, other people that are influencers in other ways, like social media influencers, to link to your stuff or to promote your stuff. So you can offer like a, you know, I don't know, 5% or something commission. If you have high profit margin products.
If not, then less. But on average, 5% is pretty average for e-commerce. And then try to get some sales that way. But you usually are going to have to still pay a fee to get a link from a website, any website. So just make sure you negotiate those fees. And do both. Do the guest posting and do the link insertion. Both are going to get you good links. Both are going to get your pages put to the top of the lists. And do it for the link insertion stuff and guest posts. Do it for your collection
pages. do it for your best posts, best this, best that. Do it for your homepage, but also do it for your best-selling products. Don't skimp on those. So link to your product pages. Those are the ones you want to rank in Google anyways, because when someone types those into Google and sees your product page, instead of having to click the ad, then you get the free traffic. And that's bottom of the funnel, low-hanging fruit traffic right there. So that's the traffic you want to rank for.
All right, guys, so I hope that was helpful. This is all the kind of stuff that we provide as a service. We not only do this kind of stuff for you, but we do produce tons of content, collections and products links and then also backlinks and a technical SEO in our SEO service.
